Software Engineer (Open Source | Remote | $90–$120/hr) Hourly contract, fully remote. Base pay range: $90–$120 per hour. About the Role Mercor is hiring Open Source Developers to support a high‑impact engineering initiative focused on reviewing, maintaining, and troubleshooting live repositories. This role is ideal for experienced contributors who understand open‑source workflows, complex Git operations, and real‑world repository management. Responsibilities Review and maintain live open‑source repositories. Diagnose and resolve repository issues, including repairing broken commit histories without data loss. Collaborate with maintainers and contributors to enforce open‑source governance and best practices. Evaluate AI/LLM model integration when applicable. Who You Are Open‑source developer or maintainer with experience reviewing and contributing to active repositories. Comfortable reasoning about Git at a deep, technical level. Skilled in debugging repository states and repairing broken commit histories without data loss. Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of software engineering experience in open‑source, backend development, or DevOps. Demonstrated contributions on GitHub, GitLab, or other OSS platforms. Experience in code review, open‑source governance, or AI/LLM model evaluation.
