Solas Energy Consulting is recruiting a Renewable Energy Engineer to join our Canadian team immediately. Candidates with experience in technical and energy modelling, renewable energy project development, ESG integration are highly desirable, as well as experience working in British Columbia or Ontario. Experience with feasibility reports, engineering reviews, and project permitting are also an asset. The Engineer will also support other project work, including due diligence reporting, circular economy analytics, life cycle assessments and more. Renewable Energy Engineer Purpose of Position The Renewable Energy Engineer supports the development, engineering, and evaluation of wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects (BESS) across North America. This role combines technical modelling, project development support, ESG integration, and cross‑disciplinary advisory work to help clients advance low‑carbon, sustainable infrastructure. The successful candidate will contribute to feasibility assessments, energy modelling, engineering reviews, ESG screening, and project permitting, while working collaboratively with internal technical teams and external partners. Primary Job Tasks and Responsibilities Deliver early‑stage siting, project layout optimization, and land‑use assessments for wind, solar, and BESS projects. Prepare and review project design criteria, feasibility studies, and preliminary engineering packages. Analyze project performance data, site conditions, and technology specifications to validate design assumptions. Conduct solar or BESS modelling and performance simulations, including loss analysis, shading studies, energy yield assessments and interconnection review. Deliver circular economy analytics and life cycle assessments. Support GHG offset quantification, reduction planning and carbon pricing analysis. Support ESG screening and due‑diligence activities, including environmental, social, governance, and climate‑risk assessments. Development of feasibility assessments. Evaluation of project constraints, risks, and other non‑quantitative aspects of project development. Management of scope, budget and schedule for designated projects. Working within company processes and standards to ensure customer satisfaction and high‑quality products. Generate technical reports, memoranda, and modelling summaries for internal reviews and client deliverables. Authorities This position does include signing authority. Qualifications Knowledge and Technical Skills: Three to five years of experience in renewable energy, sustainability strategy and reporting, energy modelling, project development preferably within a consulting or advisory environment. Strong experience in modeling and data analysis, analytical problem solving and attention to detail. Strong technical competence and research capabilities, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear client‑ready outputs. Provred ability to prepare high quality technical reports, proposals and presentation development. Strong computer skills, including Excel and statistical, graphical, and modelling software packages and preferably programming skills. Project management experience, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and managing multiple workstreams. Social Processing Skills Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a professional consulting environment with evolving priorities, multiple deliverables, and strict deadlines. Strong client‑facing communication skills, including preparing polished deliverables, participating in client meetings, and explaining technical concepts to non‑technical audiences. Ability to take abstract or undefined scopes of work and develop clear, structured, and defensible work plans demonstrating curiosity and analytical skills. Strong self‑management through planning, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently, and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presenting. Client‑focused ability to understand and translate client needs. Shows strong empathy in supporting a broad range of stakeholders including team members and client, fostering trust and building collaborative working relationships. Comfortable working in a fully remote or hybrid consulting environment, collaborating with distributed teams and clients across different provinces and time zones. Reporting Relationships Position will report to a designated Director. Location: Flexible, though the successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada. Preference is to hire someone located in British Columbia or Ontario who is able to work remotely. Hours: This is a full‑time position of 40 hours per week. Working hours are flexible, with the expectation that the individual is generally available between 9am and 4pm Mountain Time. General hours of availability will be adjusted for candidates based in other time zones. Compensation: To be determined based on experience.
