Qualifications Masters Degree in Library Science or Information Science or equivalent from an ALA‑accredited faculty of Library/Information Science. Minimum 1 year experience in curating and developing collections. Overall Purpose Oversees digital resource and collection development for the library, working with the Collections Manager, Digital Resource & Collections staff, and other departments to facilitate access to resources. Drives decision making through collection use data and performance metrics, manages the materials budget, and advances BPL’s inclusive, sustainable, and user‑focused collections. Key Accountabilities Collaborate with Collections staff, Customer Experience staff, Marcom & Community Librarians to build and curate resource collections that address the needs, problems or aspirations of all customer segments. Ensure effective use of the Library’s materials budgets, monitoring throughout the year to meet customer needs. Manage relationships with key vendors. Use ILS analytical tools to administer and assess the Collection maintenance guidelines system‑wide, including float, weeding and monitoring Collection performance. Provide ILS reports to CE staff on demand and as needed. Respond to Request for Reconsideration and purchase form requests for BPL. Develop and deliver in‑house training for library staff related to acquisition or curation of collections. Coordinate and deliver in‑house training for Collections staff when required. Act as person in charge in absence of the Manager. Manage projects on system or department‑specific initiatives, including brainstorming service initiatives and opportunities arising from emerging technology, community or library trends. Stay current with trends in collections, including physical, digital and databases. Attend training and meetings as required. Perform additional position‑related accountabilities assigned by management. Create and contribute to a safe work environment. Comply with all BPL policies, processes and applicable legislation. Key Business Relationships Internal: Manager, Digital Resources & Collections Manager, Collections staff, Library Staff including Branch Librarians, and Management team. External: Vendors including print/AV vendors and electronic database customers; local authors; other public library peers; government agencies. Scope Budget: $1,000,000+ for materials. Direct and indirect reports: Collections staff in the absence of the Manager. Knowledge of policies, processes, procedures, and systems within BPL. Project and change management skills. Demonstrated understanding of key elements of a public library collection, including broad‑based collection development practices, current trends, vendor services and library automated systems. Proactive, with ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, manage priorities and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills – verbal and written, presenting oral presentations and developing reports. Excellent time management skills and ability to work as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization, leadership, problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with a diverse group of people. Knowledge of MARC Records, Library of Congress Subject Headings, ILS functions related to Acquisitions and Cataloguing. Work Environment Typical office environment, with little exposure to noise, dirt, or external elements. Occasionally work is completed in public spaces of library branches while customers are present. Mid to high computer use and frequent contact by email, MS Teams, and phone. Occasional travel between branches within Burlington is required (mileage paid). Working Hours Work hours are generally 9am to 5pm. BPL is a 7 days per week; hours may include weekend or evening shifts. Duties may require work after‑hours in case of emergency situations. Physical Effort Normal physical activity such as periodic standing, walking, sitting and use of basic motor skills. Mental Effort Moderate to extreme visual concentration in the use of a computer. Maintaining a positive, professional, and diplomatic demeanor at all times. Moderate stress for tight timelines, competing priorities and people/relationship management. Extended periods of sitting at a computer and telephone use. Providing service and feedback to multiple people simultaneously.
