You may work with light metal plate connected wood trusses for roof and floor applications, prefabricated wood I-joists and structural composite lumber (SCL) in an engineered wood products (EWP) design and manufacturing environment with an increase in responsibilities compared to a Building Component Designer.Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:Working on and understanding complete complex structures and the process of architectural, structural, and mechanical consultants. Working with third parties or consultantsMaintaining a high level of organization, documenting projects, managing project costing, and generating RFI’s.Complete projects within multiple technical disciplines of wall panels for complex structures.Managing design work schedule to ensure jobs are completed on time.Creating computer models using computer-aided design (CAD) software.Reviewingandinterpretingcustomer-supplieddocuments, suchasblueprintsordrawings,toidentify if any areas requireclarification.Completing fabrication ready designs for residential home structures.Implementing design changes and communicating with other related departments to ensure designs are accurate and consistent.Reviewing the constructability of the projects and identifying opportunities for valueengineering.Preparingfabricationpackagesforproductiondepartment, and site packages for installers.Developing optimized customer standard models that are cost effective, shop efficient and framer friendly.Meeting with clients to discuss project details and design specifications.Providing support to other projects or duties as assigned.Recommending process improvements.Promoting a safe work environment and ensure compliance with Qualico’s Safety Program, policies and procedures.As our ideal candidate, you are…Organized; you effectively manage your time while balancing multiple priorities.A strong communicator; you clearly express your thoughts in conversation and in written communication.An active listener; you seek to understand and listen to others in a non-judgmental way.Detail oriented; you focus on detailed accuracy when dealing with a high volume of work.A team player; you contribute as a team member and share equally in the exchange of ideas, concepts and process outcomes.Post-secondary education or technical training courses in Engineering, Architecture or Drafting.Related construction industry experience can be valuable.Minimum 5-years of truss or joist design experience in the EWP industry.Proficient in both part 9 and part 4 building codes.Knowledge of building codes, construction methods, design principles, and building materials.Skilled in multiple technical disciplines of roof trusses, floor trusses and i-joists for complex structures.Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.Comfortable using Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Excel) drafting and industry design software (Mitek,AutoCAD, Revit, AutoDesk,) or similar.Preferred RequirementsPrevious experience in lumber and building materials industry is a strong asset.What We ValueCreating trusting and successful workingrelationships.Cooperating with team members in an open, positive and respectfulmanner.Setting clear, measurable and achievablegoals.Taking responsibility for the outcomes of decisions andactions.Continuously pursuing learning andgrowth.Work ConditionsYou primarily work in an office setting during regular business hours.
