With operating locations across Canada and the United States, Farrow manages over 800 employees with 28 offices and warehouses, including those ofacquired company Link+ Corporation.Position SummaryThe Team Leader – Customs will supervise assigned staff to ensure timely release of freight and entry confirmation. This position provides guidance to staff to perform their job efficiently and accurately and requires working professionally with both internal and external clients to ensure the best possible service.Supervise workflow and monitor production of assigned team members.Perform quality control functions to ensure assigned staff complete transactions accurately for accounting.Rate transactions; contact clients and vendors for additional information as needed.Database maintenance (e.g. vendor, item, rate code, CUSMA), and trade compliance functions including database audits.Provide guidance to assigned staff members on complex problems and issues.Answer inquiries from clients regarding release of their shipments and trade compliance.Assist with updating procedures as needed due to legislative and other changesMonitor client shipping processes (e.g. flow of paperwork, paperwork requirements) to ensure compliance and expedited releases. Perform some client service tasks and visit clients when necessary.Assist Manager with staff performance appraisals, as well as work and vacation and statutory holiday schedules. Schedule regular team meetings as well as attend departmental meetings. Review and approve attendance submissions on a bi-weekly basis.Liaise with Consulting department regarding status of CUSMA certificates for clients.Perform a variety of other related duties as assigned by management.Education and ExperienceHigh school graduate or equivalent experienceMinimum of 5 years of Customs Brokerage experienceSome Supervisory experience an assetExcellent knowledge of customs and relevant legislation as it pertains to importing and exporting.Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritizeExcellent attention to detail and problem-solving skillsTactful and dependableStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to supervise and communicate effectively with peopleAbility to write reports, prepare correspondence and procedures and make presentationsStrong interpersonal skills; able to work independently as well as part of a teamDemonstrated competency with standard business computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel)Working Conditions, Mental Effort & Physical RequirementsMay accompany Sales on calls to potential clients or visits with Client Partnering to existing clientsAbility to sit for extended periods of timeAbility to focus on computer screenManual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripheralsMust work under deadlines and related stresses in a timely and efficient mannerMust be able to professionally handle various personnel and other situations as they ariseMust be able to travel on occasionFarrow is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion.
