Electrical Design Engineer

Brainhunter is currently seeking “Electrical Design Engineer” to work for our valued Client. It’s a one-year contract located in Tiverton, Ontario. Accountabilities of the position are as follows: Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process. Provide technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the Engineering team. Provide electrical power distribution design and analysis for operating nuclear and other industrial plants. Perform condition assessments of electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switch gears, electric motors, motor control centers, generators and other power plant equipment. Develop life cycle plans, including inspection and test programs. Perform engineering change design and analysis following established Engineering Change Control procedures. Perform electrical analysis, equipment protection, cable and electrical equipment selection. Interface with construction/pr procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements. Provide field support to multi-disciplined plant design modifications, including provision of field engineering. Provide technical guidance/direction on projects and act as design team lead where appropriate. Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution. Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects. Stay current with developments within your field of expertise. Regular travel/visits to client sites in Durham region is required as well as occasional travel within the GTA. Other duties as assigned. What You Need to Succeed: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) is required. 5+ years’ experience in electrical design engineering. A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status, with a passion for engineering. Proven track record in electrical design and analysis in electrical power distribution, including application to nuclear plants. Strong knowledge of generating station power upgrades including necessary system protection/system stability and relaying. Experience in performing condition assessments of electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switch gears, electric motors, motor control centers, generators and other power plant equipment. Knowledge of the life cycle management of electrical equipment. In depth knowledge and experience of use of appropriate codes and standards (e.g. N299 and CSA N286), as applied to nuclear plant and conventional plants. Experience in project management and interfacing with and coordinating activities of multi-disciplinary teams. Knowledge and experience working with nuclear power plant (Bruce Power, OPG, NB Power or other) systems & processes, e.g. Engineering Change Control is an asset. Good time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of station customers. Good understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation. Experience in leading technical projects to successful conclusions. Assist in development of proposals and negotiation of contracts with clients. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality. Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to lead complex and/or multi-discipline projects. Innovative, enthusiastic and ready to be part of our dynamic team. Must be able to organize and prioritize assigned work and to coordinate multiple activities efficiently. Must be motivated by working with engineering professionals committed to producing timely and high-quality technical work. Ability to work under pressure and be a team player. OPG and Bruce Power Security Clearance is an asset.
