This position is open to applicants of all genders.HOURS32 hours per week; Saturday & Sunday, 0800 - 1600, and Monday & Tuesday, 1000 - 1800WHAT WE OFFERCommitted Living Wage Employer2022 & 2023 Canadian Nonprofit Employer of Choice Aware from NEOC2023 High-Performance Culture Award from SupportingLinesCompetitive benefits package, including health, wellness, and pension planCareer and personal development, with the ability to grow in a diverse range of programs and departmentsAccess to a range of staff mental health supports, including an in‑house counsellor, Employee Family Assistance Program, and Critical Incidents Stress ManagementAccess to On‑Demand Pay to withdraw earned wages before paydayConnective is part of a portability program where employees moving from a CSSEA‑member employer to Connective will port their service hours for vacation and wage purposes (within last 12 months)REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPSReports and is accountable to the Program Manager of the facility or their designateParticipates actively in house, staff, and staff/resident meetingsParticipates as a member of the Connective staff teamLiaises with outside professionals from other agencies or government bodies as requiredKEY ACCOUNTABILITIESPrepares, cooks and serves meals and snacks, including those for special dietary needs and special occasions in accordance with health and safety standards and the menu planMaintains the cleanliness and safety of work areas, storage, coolers, freezers, equipment, and work surfaces to a standard that meets all regulatory standardsParticipates in the development of a menu plan in accordance with dietary requirements of licensing bodies and individual dietary needs of residentsEstablishes, implements and communicates menu recipe requirements and instructionsEnsures the safe storage, handling and disposal of food and beveragesSafely and efficiently operates all equipment associated with the duties of the positionAttends staff in‑service and continuing education opportunities provided by the EmployerReports any situations that may be considered unsafe or a health riskNotifies management of any repairs or maintenance required for kitchen appliances and equipmentMaintains an inventory management system for food and related suppliesPurchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of meals. Ensures that purchases are within approved budget limitsMaintains an inventory of food and other related items. Stores food itemsProvides kitchen orientation and meal preparation instruction to staff assisting with kitchen duties, including safe food handling and preparationOther duties shall be assigned as required.WORKING CONDITIONSFunction independently, while remaining a crucial member of the support teamAdhere to Connective policies and proceduresBe available to work flexible hours as needed. May include some evenings/weekends, as determined by the regional office needs and schedulesIs a member of CUPE local 1936-11EXPERIENCE AND SKILLSOne year of experience cooking in a commercial kitchen and/or in a residential program preparing large quantity mealsAn understanding of support and service provision to people with diverse needsDemonstrated ability to work effectively with others/within a team environmentGood written and verbal communication skillsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical requirements outlined below are non‑specific to the position, as such, there may be additional tasks required. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with disabilities though our accommodation process.Ability to walk up and down stairsAbility to operate a motor vehicleAbility to move items weighing up to 50 poundsAbility to perform First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administrationAbility to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of timeAbility to complete general housekeeping duties (i.e., sweeping, mopping, wiping areas, laundry, changing light bulbs)REQUIREMENTSAbility to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check for the vulnerable sectorFood Safe Certificate (Level 1 and Level 2)Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirementsCOMPENSATIONAs Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $25.55 per hour (plus 5% in lieu of statutory holiday pay for Part‑Time employees, 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits for casual employees).
