When our people thrive, our clients do too — and together, we build a web that works better for everyone.About The RoleAs a WordPress Engineer at Kanopi Studios, you will build, maintain, and enhance WordPress websites that help our clients achieve their goals. You will collaborate closely with project managers, technical leads, designers, and other engineers to deliver performant, secure, and accessible digital experiences. You'll balance independent problem‑solving with active team communication, writing clean, well‑documented code that adheres to Kanopi's best practices and quality standards.ResponsibilitiesDeveloping and supporting a wide variety of custom WordPress sitesBuilding themes, plugins, and Gutenberg blocks (React/ACF)Creating templates and patterns that support Full Site Editing (FSE)Writing clean, maintainable, and performant PHP, JavaScript (React), and CSS/SassManaging site configuration, updates, and technical support ticketsTriaging and debugging unfamiliar WordPress sites quickly and effectivelyUsing modern workflows such as Git flow, Composer, Docker, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD pipelines to manage deploymentsParticipating in peer code reviews and contributing to shared Kanopi libraries and documentationCollaborating on technical design of new features and integrationsCommunicating proactively and collaborating on problem-solving while maintaining a supportive, inclusive work styleEffectively prioritizing tasks across projects and clients while meeting deadlines and quality standardsQualifications3+ years of professional WordPress development experience, including custom themes, plugins, and Gutenberg block development (ACF)Strong understanding of modern WordPress architecture (CPTs, REST API, taxonomies, hooks/filters) and Full Site Editing (FSE) concepts, including block patterns, templates, and theme.json configurationProficient with React for Gutenberg blocks; experience with Next.js or headless WordPress implementations is a plusAwareness of performance, security, accessibility (WCAG 2.2), SEO, and basic server administration best practicesExperience with modern development workflows (Composer, Docker, GitHub Actions, CI/CD, and multi‑environment setups)Experience working in WordPress VIP, WPEngine, or Pantheon environmentsExperience working within a digital agency or multi‑client environmentFamiliarity with different project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall)Experience identifying and surfacing potential project risks earlyStrong, inclusive, and thoughtful interpersonal and communication skillsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experienceCompensation & Work RequirementsFull‑time position. The starting salary for this role will fall within the range of CA$66,100.00 - CA$81,439.00.
