Cariboo Memorial Hospital (CMH) is a Level 2 community hospital with 28 inpatient beds, offering ER, OR, Med‑Surg, and Obstetrical units, as well as on‑site lab, diagnostic imaging, and an outpatient Hemodialysis Unit. The redevelopment project will add 25 inpatient beds, a new emergency department, and a mental‑health unit. In 2026, an 8‑bed inpatient psychiatry unit will open, expanding services for the community. Fantastic opportunity for an Adult Psychiatrist in a welcoming rural community. Join a collaborative mental‑health team, community general practitioners, and a child psychiatrist working together to create innovative approaches across the lifespan. The role is new, allowing you to tailor your practice to your interests. Income will be primarily fee‑for‑service; some sessions are available, and there is no overhead. Responsibilities Provide psychiatric care in an outpatient setting, primarily fee‑for‑service, with opportunities to tailor management plans. Collaborate with local family practitioners to develop and implement a patient medical home model aligned with Interior Health Mental Health and Substance Use Program and Ministry priorities. Deliver urgent support to CMH’s emergency department and the Gateway Crisis Stabilization Unit, offering assessment, short‑term intervention, and referral for follow‑up services. Participate in quality‑improvement projects and program‑development activities within the community. Offer services in remote Aboriginal communities in person or via telehealth, and engage in community education activities. Contribute to UBC teaching through the UBC Department of Psychiatry. Engage in leadership development with the Interior Health NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program. Provide tele‑psychiatry support coordinated from Kamloops. Compensation & Benefits Compensation type: Combination of fee‑for‑service and possible additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement. Benefits may include: Retention Premium 12.32% Flat Fee $19,092 Relocation funding $9,000 – $15,000 (based on move location) Recruitment incentive $15,000 RCME support up to $6,600 after 4 years Potential BC or Canada loan forgiveness programs for eligible candidates. Rural incentives (subject to change; rates confirmed at time of offer).
