With a significant growth plan in-flight, the role’s elevated level of responsibility requires a high-caliber executive capable of delivering a strategic growth plan to the highest levels of Loblaw management.While these responsibilities are significant, this position also has the opportunity to make a generational change to how the team conducts business. With a large, data-rich environment, we are seeking a senior leader capable of transforming the team’s workflow through the visionary use of artificial intelligence and advanced statistics to deliver retail capital investment scenarios more quickly and accurately to senior management. This is a significant opportunity to own and advance the application of geographic analysis in the real world where tangible results define your leadership and vision every single week.This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Loblaw Real Estate and serves as a key member of the LRE Leadership team. This is a dynamic role which requires multi-tasking abilities, as well as flexibility with changing priorities.The successful candidate will be responsible for transforming a team of high performing individuals to continue to meet the accelerating needs of Loblaw. Accomplishing this requires the integration of market level statistics – population, demographics and competition – in close collaboration with peer real estate leaders and retail operators to deliver this plan, consisting of new stores and format conversions for supermarkets and Shoppers Drug Mart locations.Duties:Manage a team of 12 high performing analysts and specialists with varying levels of seniority in alignment with Loblaw Companies “Blue Culture” principles.Integrate market statistics such as population, demographics and competition into a comprehensive retail growth plan for Loblaw. This occurs in close collaboration with the VP of Real Estate in LRE and must align with the overall growth target and budget of Loblaw.Deliver strategic analysis of the Canadian supermarket and retail drug store market, including updates on competitive strategies, urban development and geographic trends such as multicultural growth and the expected retail implications.Drive the vision of geographic analysis for Loblaw into new areas incorporating the use of artificial intelligence, loyalty data and 3rd party datasets to significantly accelerate the company’s ability to evaluate retail capital investments. Collaborating with the VP, Real Estate, conducting systematic reviews of markets for each operating division Predict future performance through the balance of empirical statistics with subjective retail attributes. Support legal counsel with anti-trust market analysis for application in merger and acquisition opportunities. Participate as a key member of key strategic projects or initiatives Prepare and present real estate strategies or deals to management board and board of directors as requiredRole Requirements:Minimum 10 years of hands‑on experience in retail specific geographic information systems (GIS). Post‑secondary education equivalent to a university degree in Urban Planning, Geography or related field - Masters of Spatial Analysis preferred Excellent skills in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and PowerBI) Experience in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for problem solving using a combination of discrete and continuous data inputs. Minimum 5 years of research & financial analysis or equivalent experience – for example, interpreting a profit and loss (P&L) statement. Excellent knowledge of the Canadian retail market, grocery and drug store experience preferred. Will be presenting to high levels of management Ability to work autonomously in an agile workplace as well as coordinate and collaborate with colleagues across regional offices. Requires a senior level understanding of inter‑related work processes to be able to adapt to differing assignments. Excellent knowledge of analytical practices and procedures, especially in spatial analytics. Top level professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with external contacts and colleagues including senior management. Proven leadership skills in building/leading large work teams, while cross‑training and developing the future talent pool. Able to work at a high level with diverse personalities and styles. Communicates with clarity, verbally and in one on one or group situations, or over Microsoft Teams and / or the telephone. Work related travel is a requirement of this role.
