Position Summary:

Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology. Prepares materials and equipment. Compiles data. Demonstrates techniques. Maintains equipment. Initial supervision and training by supervisor/team members will be provided, but a high degree of independence is expected in the long term. The successful candidate selected will be dedicated to maintaining high standards of data quality and laboratory safety and will demonstrate strong organization, record-keeping and communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology in fields such as chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, histology, toxicology, microbiology, immunology and molecular biology.
  • Prepares and sets up materials and equipment. Performs a variety of assays, analyses and tests such as tissue culture, radiochemical assays, electrophoresis, chromatography and histological procedures
  • Records results, performs calculations and compiles data. Maintains records and files.
  • Demonstrates the operation of apparatus or techniques.
  • Maintains equipment and performs minor repairs. Arranges for servicing.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the work area.
  • Maintains inventory. Purchases equipment and materials.
  • Uses a variety of equipment such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, chromatography apparatus, electrophoresis apparatus, electrophysiological recording apparatus, cryostats, microtomes, computers and audio-visual equipment.
  • Isolation, purification, and characterization of the compound of interest
  • Extraction, fractionation, and chromatographic purification
  • Must have hands-on experience with HPLC, UPLC equipment and methods
  • Extensive experience in protein purification and analysis (cell extraction, protein fractionation, SDS-PAGE, column chromatography, AKTA FPLC.)
  • Experience in microbial fermentation and bioreactor operation and microbiologic laboratory skills (strain isolation and subculture) is highly desirable.
  • The candidate is expected to be a self-motivated problem solver who can design and carry out experiments with limited supervision.

Education and Experience:

  • PhD degree or equivalent in biomaterial sciences, plant science, microbiology, or biochemistry required

  • Effective formal communication skills, including scientific writing and presentation.
  • Prior experience with plant science preferred.
  • Prior experience with HPLC is mandatory.

Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated organizational skills, work independently, and ability to multi-task. Excellent time management to enable completion of tasks in theappropriate time. Good knowledge in data entry and analysis (excel, GraphPad, statistics). Excellent communication skills in English and French,(spoken, read, and written).

Le candidat retenu se consacrera au maintien de normes élevées en matière de qualité des données et de sécurité en laboratoire, et fera preuve d'un sens accru de l'organisation, de l'archivage et de la communication.

Fonctions et responsabilités :

  • Participer à l'exécution de projets et d'expériences de laboratoire.
  • Effectuer diverses tâches techniques spécialisées selon une méthodologie établie dans des domaines tels que la chimie, la biochimie, la physiologie, l'histologie, la toxicologie, la microbiologie, l'immunologie et la biologie moléculaire.
  • Préparer et installer le matériel et l'équipement.
  • Effectuer divers essais, analyses et tests tels que la culture de tissus, les essais radiochimiques, l'électrophorèse, la chromatographie et les procédures histologiques. Enregistrer les résultats, effectuer des calculs et compiler des données. Tenir des registres et des dossiers.
  • Démontre le fonctionnement d'un appareil ou d'une technique.
  • Entretient l'équipement et effectue des réparations mineures. Organise l'entretien.
  • Veille à la propreté et à la sécurité de l'espace de travail.

  • Utilise divers équipements tels que balances, pH-mètres, pipettes, hottes à flux laminaire, incubateurs, autoclaves, microscopes, spectrophotomètres, centrifugeuses, appareils de chromatographie, appareils d'électrophorèse, appareils d'enregistrement électrophysiologique, cryostats, microtomes, ordinateurs et équipements audiovisuels.
  • Isolement, purification et caractérisation du composé d'intérêt
  • Extraction, fractionnement et purification chromatographique
  • Expérience pratique de l'équipement et des méthodes HPLC et UPLC.
  • Expérience approfondie de la purification et de l'analyse des protéines (extraction cellulaire, fractionnement des protéines, SDS-PAGE, chromatographie sur colonne, AKTA FPLC).
  • Une expérience de la fermentation microbienne et de l'exploitation de bioréacteurs ainsi que des compétences en laboratoire microbiologique (isolement et sous-culture de souches) sont vivement souhaitées.
  • Il est attendu du candidat qu'il sache résoudre les problèmes de manière autonome et qu'il soit capable de concevoir et de réaliser des expériences avec une supervision limitée.

  • Une expérience préalable de la CLHP est obligatoire.
