Senior Estimator

📍Ottawa, ON (1900 City Park Drive) 🕒Full-Time | Reports to: Director of Construction Haven Building Group Inc. is expanding into commercial and institutional construction, with a growing portfolio of building envelope restoration, renovations, and commercial fit-ups. We are seeking a Senior Construction Estimator to lead and strengthen our estimating function while working closely with project management and leadership to support successful project delivery. This role is ideal for a senior estimator or technical professional who wants meaningful responsibility, influence over systems and processes, and the opportunity to help shape a growing commercial contractor. Estimating Leadership & Tendering Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for commercial and institutional construction projects. Manage the estimating process from initial review through final submission for public and private sector tenders. Develop accurate quantities, pricing, and bid strategies aligned with company objectives. Support bid/no-bid decision‑making in collaboration with senior leadership. Pre‑Construction & Technical Review Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to identify scope gaps, risks, constructability issues, and opportunities. Participate in design and pre‑construction meetings as required. Work closely with Project Managers to ensure continuity from estimating through project execution. Subcontractor & Supplier Coordination Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing. Level bids, assess scope coverage, and recommend trade partners. Build and maintain strong relationships with key subcontractors and suppliers. Cost Planning & Risk Management Develop conceptual, budgetary, and detailed estimates at various stages of design. Identify cost risks, allowances, and contingencies. Support value engineering initiatives without compromising quality or performance. Systems, Processes & Continuous Improvement Help develop, refine, and standardize estimating systems, templates, and workflows. Maintain historical cost data and lessons learned to improve future estimates. Contribute to strengthening the company’s overall pre‑construction and delivery capabilities. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with Project Managers, site teams, consultants, and leadership. Clearly communicate estimate assumptions, risks, and exclusions. Support smooth handover from estimating to project execution. Qualifications & Experience Education: Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field. Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial or institutional construction estimating. Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of construction methods, drawings, specifications, contracts, and building codes. Tendering Experience: Experience with MERX, OCA, SAP Ariba, and Link2Build is considered a strong asset. Software Proficiency: Experience with estimating, takeoff, and cost management software. Detail‑Oriented: High level of accuracy, organization, and analytical ability. Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
