Victoria Newitt Recruitment Inc has been retained by ABC Recycling to search for a General Manager of their Head Office location in Burnaby. Job Summary ABC Recycling exists to preserve the world’s resources, building thriving communities by accelerating metal recycling. They do this by acting with integrity, bringing their best, and committing to their future. Reporting to the Regional General Manager, the General Manager is responsible for all business operations of the metals recycling facility, provide leadership to all yard staff and build lasting, growth-oriented customer relationships in the region. The job holder will be an experienced people leader with a proven track record of excellent customer service. Duties & Responsibilities Directs supervisors and staff to operate the facility. Works with Regional Manager and VP, Operations to set annual budget for the yard, taking into account equipment condition; environmental necessities; operational needs; business growth. Proactively identifies and pursues new business prospects for ABC and develops existing relationships to achieve growth in volume and market share. Oversees environmental, health & safety programs and processes to create a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors. Assists in the development of facility standards operating procedures. Manages all facility human resources processes including training and performance management. Measures and reports service and operational data and partners with corporate subject matter experts to enhance key performance measures. Identifies and implements continuous improvement opportunities. Partners with corporate business development team and with other GMs at other ABC (or partner) locations to expand the company’s customer base and service offerings. Job Requirements 5+ years previous experience of all aspects of operations/distribution management of a satellite business location, including people management. 3+ years’ experience running a profit center-oriented business model. Adept at sales and business development and proven ability to win new customers and accounts. Experienced in implementing continuous improvement and quality assessment programs. Comfortable with using MS Office suite and capable of working with computer software programs. Ability to develop and build relationships both internally and externally to the organization. Experience in the scrap metal processing industry is an asset. Degree or diploma in a related post-secondary program is an asset. Excellent collaborator and problem solver. Proven entrepreneurial or business growth acumen. Work Environment: Job Conditions Average office environment, with occasional exposure to dirt and dust related to scrap yard environment. May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels, such as from office equipment and the yard. Some travel is involved to inspect off-site work projects. Constant interruptions, changing schedules, and often extremely short time deadlines significantly increase job pressures. Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally. Sit for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day. Write by hand and keyboard for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day. Assemble papers, paper punch, staple, file. Apply sufficient force to open and close file drawers. Ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Communication is primarily by phone, email, virtual platforms and sometimes in person, with other departments within the company. Visual acuity needed for close detail work, preparing and analyzing data figures, accounting, and computer use. Compensation The range offered for this position is: $160,000 – $190,000 annually. Compensation offered within this range is based on factors unique to each candidate, including skills, qualifications, experience and credentials.
