Under the general direction of the Regional Director and reporting to the Health Service Administrator, responsible for the overall administrative and technical management of the Laboratory Department and its operations including policies, procedures, budgets, reports, personnel, and records. Plans, organizes, and directs the work of the Laboratory staff in all areas ensuring that suitable quality assurance is maintained. Shift Rotation/Hours of work Monday to Friday, Days – 08:00 to 16:00 The Lakes District Hospital The Lakes District Hospital is a 16-bed facility that sees an average of 12,000 ER visits per year. The services include: Diagnostic Imaging Laboratory Pharmacy Rehabilitation Services Palliative Care Acute Care Public Health Home and Community Care Burns Lake Burns Lake is located in the heart of the Lakes District, an area boasting over 4800 kilometers of lake shoreline. The village has a diverse population of 2,000 residents and serves a surrounding area of approximately 13,000 residents of the Regional District of Bulkley‑Nechako. With two of the six local First Nations communities located within municipal boundaries, Burns Lake has a strong sense of culture and incredible local talents to showcase. Housing in Burns Lake is very affordable, including lakefront property There are two K‑7 schools, a K‑9, a 8‑12 and a 10‑12 public school within the Lakes District Area. Additionally, there are two Independent Mennonite schools and one College of New Caledonia campus within the community. It is centrally located between Smithers (1.5 hrs) and Prince George (2.5 hours) for ease of access to airports. VIA Rail serves Burns Lake year round and stops right in the centre of Burns Lake's downtown core. Qualfications Graduate of a recognized program in Medical Laboratory Technology. Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science or Advanced Registered Technologist Certificate required. Successful completion of an administrative training program such as a Canadian Hospital Association Departmental Management Certificate. Current certification with the Canadian Society of Laboratory Technologists. Five (5) years recent related experience, two of which would have been at a supervisory level or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Physical and mental ability to carry out duties of position. Ability to plan, organise and supervise the department work and staff. Ability to operate related equipment. Ability to cooperate and deal effectively with others. Ability to establish standards and objectives, measure performance and take corrective action as a means of controlling laboratory service.
