We have a fantastic opportunity at a reputable, ambitious steel mill company with a focus on metal recovery, scrapping, and melting.

They are looking for a General Manager, who will manage onsite assets and personnel to meet the customer's needs safely and efficiently, navigating a challenging and high-risk environment.

Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Foster a culture focused on hazard identification and compliance with standards within the workforce.
  2. Manage operations to maximize equipment utilization with an optimal headcount, aiming to meet production targets while ensuring high service quality.
  3. Drive profitability to meet corporate goals.
  4. Oversee and adhere to site budgets, controlling expenses to ensure net profits.
  5. Maintain expertise in the current ERP system and become the site's "super" user.
  6. Train and evaluate the site's use of the ERP system to fully leverage its benefits.
  7. Maintain a Training Matrix to ensure personnel are qualified for their tasks and to enhance their capabilities through structured training for a broader range of duties.
  8. Provide resources and supervision to plant operations to achieve planned uptime.
  9. Review planned material runs to ensure a balance between the mill's needs and external sales.

Experience

  1. Managed at least 50 staff
  2. Previous experience in plant/general management
  3. Milling experience or understanding of a melt plant
