Nurse Practitioner - Locum Alberta Health Services is seeking a full‑scope Nurse Practitioner to provide temporary coverage across a network of emergency departments throughout Alberta, including rural locations. This role is unionized and represented by the Alberta Union of Nurse Practitioners (AUNP). Opportunity As an NP you will deliver comprehensive primary and acute care, covering medical inpatient units and affiliated long‑term care beds when required. On‑call peer support is available, and the position offers premium hourly payment, travel reimbursement, per diem, meal allowance, and accommodation. Responsibilities Integrate nursing and medical clinical skills to assess, diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures. Manage patient health needs in emergency and acute care settings, ensuring safe, seamless coordination across interprofessional teams. Apply advanced practice nursing competencies in Clinical Practice, Leadership, Health Systems Optimization, Education, and Research to enhance care quality and influence health systems. Adhere to union policies and represent the union (AUNP) in all professional matters. Qualifications Required: Completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program with a minimum of a Master’s degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP). Additional Required: Minimum of 3 years Nurse Practitioner clinical experience in an acute care setting (within the last 5 years). Current ACLS and PALS certification. Evidence of independent and collaborative practice within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to provide trauma‑informed, patient‑centered care across the lifespan. Preferred: Emergency Nurse Practitioner certification (ENP) or equivalent. Emergency Medicine education such as Adult EM Bootcamp/Hippo Education or GEMS. Pediatric experience and prior rural or emergency nursing practice. Strong teamwork, organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and familiarity with Connect Care. Compensation & Details Salary: $62.74 – $72.00 per hour (including premium for locum hours). Posting End Date: 05-Jan-2026 Date Available: 15-Jan-2026 Hours per Shift: Varies Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, On Call Vehicle Requirement: Driver’s license and vehicle required. Location: Red Deer Regional Hospital (as per location). The role is casual/relief, 0.00 FTE, and multi‑site is not applicable.
