Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountains, Teck’s Corporate Office sits in one of Canada’s most culturally diverse cities.Surrounded by world-renowned nature and globally inspired cuisine, the office brings together many of Teck’s corporate functions - all working toward Teck’s purpose of providing the essential resources the world relies on.Role OverviewReporting to the Director, Global Sourcing And Category Management, the Analyst, Supply Management is accountable to conduct analysis and diagnostic work on strategic supply categories. The Analyst will apply techniques that range from primary data aggregation to sophisticated models to support sourcing strategies, negotiations, and contract management. The Analyst will support the Category Managers by providing ongoing market and economic analyses identifying key issues and trends; verifying contract pricing to ensure compliance with adjustment mechanisms; supporting internal demand analysis and preparing demand forecasts; and tracking and reporting value, benefits, and key performance indicators for management.The Analyst is also accountable to conduct analysis on internal spend and demand, and external supply markets, to support the development of new value propositions for selected categories. The role is essential in support of Teck’s transformation objectives to standardize, simplify and clarify the people, processes and technology that enables and integrates between Supply Chain, Asset Management, and Finance.This role is being recruited under two employment options: one full-time, permanent position and one 18-month long-term temporary position. Candidates may be considered for either opportunity based on experience, business needs, and mutual fit.Develop your career with one of Canada's Top 100 Employers and join our teamResponsibilitiesBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresConduct reviews of strategic supply contracts, verifying contract price adjustments and ensuring compliance with adjustment mechanismsConduct ongoing market analysis identifying key issues and trends relevant to strategic supply categoriesSupport Transformation activities by contributing to data quality, data readiness, and data governance workstreamsIdentify and review legacy data sources and support decisions related to data cleansing and standardizationPrepare information for tracking the value and benefits in each supply contract and provide timely, accurate reporting on performance indicatorsComplete internal demand and fulfillment reviews for each contract and prepare updates to demand forecastsWork with the Category Managers to develop the value propositions/ business cases to a detailed level for the selected categories, assessing the current state, desired state, potential value and benefits, risks and mitigations, effort, time to implement, etc.Review existing spend data to identify new categories for strategic sourcing. Initiate and coordinate the validation of the spend data and ascertain demand (quantitative data) for the selected categories through teamwork and communication with site representativesIdentify end-user needs, functional requirements, technical specifications, and potential for alternatives, standardization and rationalization for the selected categoriesEstablish a fact base for the selected categories, identifying current demand management and buying practices, existing contracts and expiry periods, conditions and suitability of the contracts, and the potential for renegotiating terms of the contracts with suppliersAnalyze the supply market to develop understanding of supply/demand dynamics, supplier capabilities and capacities, market position, competition, and alternatives to supply for the selected categoriesUnderstand competitive forces, reverse engineer suppliers’ costs, and determine relative bargaining strengths and weaknesses for the selected categoriesDevelop an understanding of life-cycle costs and identify cost reduction options for the selected categoriesConduct data analysis and develop and maintain models to support the sourcing strategies for the selected categories, ensuring quality, accuracy, and focused analytic reviewProvide assistance and conduct other work duties as assigned by the Director, Supply ManagementQualificationsA post-secondary Business/Finance/Marketing degree or equivalent certificationsRelevant work experience within the mining or related industry would be an assetStrong analytical and critical thinking skillsDetailed understanding of analytical methods, sophisticated Microsoft Excel skills for complex data analysis, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Word, and PowerPointKnowledge and understanding of supply management and mine operationsWell-developed written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skillsAbility to work in a team environment and to optimally develop and maintain a rapport in an active network of internal and external contactsAbility to handle competing priorities to meet tight deadlines in a challenging environmentMotivated self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and accountability over assigned workBilingual (particularly Spanish) would be an assetPay Range: CAD $83,000 - $103,000 per yearThe actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.Why TeckAt Teck, your work matters—to the world, to our communities and to your future.As a leading Canadian resource company, we focus on responsibly providing the metals essential for global development and the energy transition while caring for the people, communities and land that we love.
