The Cree First Nation of Waswanipi is currently seeking a resourceful and highly motivated individual to fill the position of Assistant Director General. The Assistant Director General offers operational and strategic support to the Director General while following up on directives issued from the Office of the Chief and CFNW Council. In parallel, the Assistant Director General oversees and approves legislative projects for the Office of the Chief. As a member of the Director General Office, the incumbent is expected to promote the vision and the direction of the Nation to internal and external stakeholders. The Assistant Director General operates under the direct supervision of the Director General, with accountability to the Legislative Department. Key Responsibilities Support the Director General in the planning, directing, coordinating, and monitoring of the long-range objectives, plans, budgets, policies, and directives of the CFNW Council, the Executive and Management Committees of the CFNW. Assist the Director General in keeping team members informed of decisions made by CFNW Council and Management and following up on any directives. Serve as liaison with all departments and other stakeholders to ensure that all strategic objectives are respected and achieved, and that projects are advancing as planned and anticipated. Support the Director General and Office of the Chief in the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of the various projects and initiatives from the Strategic Plan. Communicate and oversee directives as set out by CFNW Council, and accurately track, and update relevant stakeholders on the progress of those directives to ensure their completion. Collaborate with the Corporate Secretary and Treasurer to review all agreements to ensure adequate definition of deliverables. Make revisions and recommendations as needed. Develop and maintain the tools and processes to support the strategic and annual planning processes, including mechanisms to monitor and track progress. In collaboration with the Director General, assist the Treasurer in the preparation of the Band’s annual budgets. Work with the Director General and the Treasurer for the proper coordination and control of expenditure within the allocated budgets and ensure Directors are compliant with the pre-approved budgets of CFNW Council. Collaborate with the Political Officer and Executive Assistant to the Chief, Deputy Chief, and CFNW Council in reviewing briefing sheets and presentations for CFNW Council meetings, and ensuring they are sent timely, as per the Governance Law. In the absence of the Director General, assume responsibility for verifying and signing off on documents pertaining to approved plans and budgets. Employment Requirements A two-year college diploma or university degree in a relevant field; OR seven to ten years of related experience and/or training; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Fluency in Cree is required; proficiency in English is essential; French is considered an asset. Strong ability to write reports, proposals, and business correspondence. Demonstrated leadership, management, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficient in basic computer use and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) Ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision.Must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks. Must have strong research skills. Good understanding of budget management and has strong financial literacy skills. Proven ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality. High attention to detail and accuracy.
