Volunteer Opportunity Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate financial records and bookkeeping in compliance with CRA requirements Manage year‑end financial close, including reconciliations and accruals Prepare financial statements and reports for the Board and funders Monitor budgets, track restricted funds, and analyze variances Support grant and funder financial reporting and compliance Ensure strong internal controls, approvals, and financial policies Assist with CRA filings and audit or review preparation Support the Treasurer and leadership team with financial planning and reporting Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or CPA candidate preferred, with knowledge of nonprofit and charity financial management 1–5 years of financial management, accounting, or bookkeeping experience, preferably within the nonprofit or charitable sector Experience in budget preparation, financial reporting, and understanding regulatory compliance requirements for charities Proficiency with accounting software (such as QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel Experience working with diverse teams and maintaining confidentiality Skills Required Strong understanding of financial statements, budgets, and reports Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing financial documents Analytical thinking and ability to interpret data and advise on financial decisions Integrity and accountability and commitment to transparency and ethical standards Communication and clear presentation of financial information to non‑financial board members Problem‑solving and able to identify and address financial risks or challenges Organizational skills and timely follow‑up on financial deadlines and reports Teamwork and works well with board, staff, and external accountants or auditors Strong financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting skills Knowledge of CRA regulations and nonprofit financial compliance Experience managing grant‑funded and restricted funds Proficiency with accounting software and Excel Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to prepare clear financial reports for boards and funders Good organizational and time‑management skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively Skills Gained / Related Careers Practical experience in nonprofit and charity financial management Hands‑on experience with CRA compliance and year‑end reporting Grant and funder financial reporting skills Budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis Board‑level financial reporting and governance support Strengthened financial controls and risk‑management skills Finance Manager Nonprofit Treasurer or Finance Committee Chair Accounting and Financial Analyst roles Program Manager with financial oversight responsibilities Age Range 18-30, 31-54, 55+ Time Commitment Approximately 5–10 hours per week Flexible schedule, primarily remote Additional time required during fiscal year‑end, audits, and funder reporting deadlines Location Winnipeg Criminal Record Check Required No Child Abuse Registry Check Required No Volunteer Eligibility Small, family and friends groups Large, corporate and schools Fulfilling volunteer hours for school credit Able to attend with a support person Require childcare Uses a mobility device Required to complete community service Organization Will Provide A letter of reference Certificate of recognition Additional Information Volunteer Manitoba is located on the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Anisininew, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation.
