Executive Director at The Manitoba Law Foundation The Manitoba Law Foundation is seeking a strategic and experienced professional to join our leadership team as Director of Finance. This full-time, permanent role is central to managing the Foundation’s financial growth, ensuring sustainability, and supporting effective grantmaking. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance leads financial strategy, operations, and oversight across the organization. The successful candidate will bring expertise in financial leadership, investment strategy, and operational management — ideally within the non-profit or public sector. Applicants must reside in Manitoba and be able to travel within the province and across Canada as required. Occasional evening and weekend availability is expected for grant adjudication, committee, and Board meetings. What We Offer Starting Salary: $88,000 to $104,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. Retirement: 5% RRSP Matching. Work environment: Hybrid work option (up to two remote workdays per week). Target Start Date: February 2026. Position Summary As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Finance provides strategic financial leadership and oversees the Foundation’s financial and administrative functions. This role ensures financial health, compliance, and sustainability while optimizing operations, investments, risk management, and reporting. The Director supports the Executive Director, Board, and Audit & Risk Committee in financial planning and decision-making, and manages budgeting, forecasting, grant accounting, payroll, and investment strategy. Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy Execute financial strategy for the Executive Director, Board, and Audit & Risk Committee. Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and internal controls. Oversee financial systems and infrastructure. Develop and enforce financial policies, ensuring compliance with GAAP, regulatory standards. Manage cash flow, investment, and financial forecasting. Prepare revenue projections, consulting economists to develop prime rate forecasts. Optimize revenues, negotiate interest rates and service fees, and manage investment strategies with external advisors. Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, and government agencies. Lead financial risk management, assessing and mitigating vulnerabilities. Act as Foundation’s CRA representative, ensuring compliance with tax filings, regulatory submissions, and government reporting. Coordinate annual audit and liaise with auditors. Oversee grant-related financial administration and grantee evaluations/reporting. Serve as an authorized signatory for the Foundation. Operation & Administrative Oversight Manage financial systems, controls, and compliance. Oversee payroll, employee benefits, and salary administration. Maintain accounting systems and financial data security. Partner with the Executive Director to manage external contracts (financial services, insurance, IT, and vendors), ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness. Support office operations with the Executive Assistant. Organizational Leadership & Team Management Contribute to strategic planning, risk management, and decision-making. Oversee and mentor finance staff. Lead recruitment for finance roles. Drive process improvements and adaptive financial strategies. Represent the Foundation externally with financial institutions, advisors, legal professionals, and regulatory bodies. Present financial reports at Board and Audit & Risk Committee meetings. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director. Qualifications & Experience Education: CPA designation required; MBA or equivalent financial management experience preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years in financial leadership, ideally within the nonprofit or public sector. Experience working with a board of directors and understanding board governance is a strong asset. Expertise: Audits, grant management, and regulatory compliance. Revenue optimization and financial sustainability. Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams, foster collaboration, and mentor. Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial software and reporting tools. Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex financial data. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial audiences. Political acuity and sound judgment in sensitive financial matters.
