Student Support Office, Student Life & Community Engagement (Student Life Officer)Position Overview

The Student Support Office, Student Life & Community Engagement (Student Life Officer) works to provide a holistic approach to identifying and addressing student needs on and off campus. The Student Life Officer, under the supervision of the VP of Operations, provides direction to the Alexander College Student Association and works to enhance student communications.

The SLO works to ensure a positive culture of inclusivity and connection with all students and, where required, advocates for them. The nature of the position requires the ideal candidate to possess a passion for working with students in a post-secondary context and a strong understanding of the dynamics of an international student environment.

From $50,000.00 per year

Working Hours

The Student Life Officer is expected to work during regular business hours as well as on evenings and weekends to attend events at times as required, for 37.5 hours per week. Occasional overtime may be required.

Location

Burnaby and Vancouver campuses

Various locations within the lower mainland for student clubs and events purposes

Education & Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma required
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or some education at the postsecondary level
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a promotional or marketing role, preferably within an educational setting
Qualifications
  • Strong proficiency in English;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills;
  • Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Strong ability to take initiative and complete tasks as assigned;
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office;
  • Can initiate tasks/projects confidently and competently;
  • Strong ability to communicate easily and fluidly through technology and social media;
  • Works well both independently and in high-performance teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership and public speaking abilities
Specific ResponsibilitiesAssist with Administrative Functions of the Student Life Unit
  • Attend regular Student Life Unit meetings
  • Work in conjunction with other staff in the SST and other departments, as necessary; attend regular SST meetings
  • Collect and present data to VP Operations related to the term and annual reporting
Student Event Planning and Management
  • Assist with on- and off-site Alexander College events in terms of setup, preparation, and delivery.
  • Create and lead regular student events on and off campus, including but not limited to multicultural, networking, and social events
  • Create bookings for events both offsite and onsite as a representative of AC
  • Solicit feedback for subsequent terms’ activities and conduct surveys to this end;
  • Promote Alexander College activities by supervising events as directed
  • Track, analyze, and report data related to all events;
  • Participate in events as needed
Alexander College Student Association (ACSA) Support
  • Attend ACSA meetings weekly and assist in facilitating meetings
  • Prepare and run student elections in a timely manner
  • Provide guidance and oversight to budgeting, running of meetings, planning and running of events and activities, etc.
  • Connect with other institutions to promote a connection between ACSA and other student associations
  • Update policies and procedures for ACSA as needed
Student Club Planning and Management
  • Develop student and staff-led clubs as per ACSA Charter guidelines;
  • Identify potential student club leaders early each term
  • Train club leaders on basic procedure and policy
  • Develop and enhance ACSA throughout each year
Program Oversight
  • Oversee the Alumni Program, including outreach efforts, information gathering, and testimonials
  • Support the Athletics Program by coordinating events and activities and promoting athletic engagement
  • Develop and manage the Volunteering Program, connecting students with community service opportunities and fostering a culture of giving back
Other
  • Ensure efficient management, scheduling, and supervision of all tasks and duties performed by the front desk staff of the SA DIV
  • Pursue professional development related to Student Life and Student Support Services
  • Prepare proposals to develop future opportunities for Student Life
  • Connect with other institutions to promote a connection between ACSA and other student associations
  • Prepare various reports and participate in college initiatives as presented by the administration
  • Invigilate course examinations while showing reasonable flexibility with respect to scheduling during each semester’s examination period
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VP of Operations
