**Location:**Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is currently recruiting two Geoscience Students to assist the talented team of professionals in the Regulatory Applications (RA) Branch with overseeing the responsible development of Alberta’s oil and gas resources. You will work within either the In Situ Applications Conformance team or the Subsurface Oil and Gas Geology and Hydrogeology team, supporting regulatory oversight for groundwater and other geoscience areas within these sectors. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of resource recovery projects in Alberta, including their operations, impact management, geological and hydrogeological settings, successes and challenges, and efforts to meet regulatory requirements.The Regulatory Applications Branch consists of geoscientists, engineers, and environmental science experts who collaborate to manage the regulatory lifecycle of oil, gas, and coal developments. In this role, you will learn from these professionals and develop an appreciation for how Alberta’s regulatory framework relies on technical sciences to ensure the safe, environmentally responsible, and efficient recovery of energy resources. Familiarity with the stratigraphy of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin is an asset. Familiarity with hydrogeology is considered an asset.Familiarity with in situ oil sands or oil and gas resource development is an asset.Strong analytical and data presentation skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on technical writing.
