Apply now and start your journey with us About the Role: We are searching for a highly organized and decisive individual to join our team. As the By‑Law Enforcement Officer Summer Student, reporting to the Chief Building Official, you are responsible to administer and ensure compliance with provincial and municipal by‑laws that regulate property standards, noise, zoning, open air burning, animal control, public nuisance, lawn watering, and parking by conducting comprehensive investigations. Job Responsibilities: Enforce all municipal regulatory by‑laws and ensure compliance. Conduct proactive Beach Patrols of all beaches and parks within Saugeen Shores. Conduct proactive enforcement of all parking areas in Saugeen Shores. Respond to by‑law enforcement complaints submitted. Conduct inspections of properties to ensure all by‑laws are adhered to. Issue notices and orders to obtain compliance. Follow‑up with property owners and management to ensure compliance with by‑laws. Issue Part 1 offences, Park 2 Parking Offences, and Part 3 Summons for non compliance. Attend court as required to represent the municipality. Educate the public on by‑law requirements and provisions. Work with additional agencies such as Saugeen Shores Police Service on by‑law infractions. Education: Enrolled in a post‑Secondary Education in Law, Police Foundations or equivalent Possess a Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License Experience and Knowledge: Knowledge of municipal and provincial regulations relating to by‑law enforcement Ability to understand and interpret legislation, by‑laws, and policies. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate diplomatically with key stakeholders – residents, government agencies. Well‑developed conflict management and problem‑solving skills. Excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to exercise good judgment in decision‑making • Ability to effectively solve problems. Demonstrated work history that highlights teamwork and a positive attitude. Established computer skills and experience in using relevant software applications. Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends. Skills and competencies you bring to the role: Attention to Detail: You have strong attention to detail by exhibiting thoroughness and accuracy in accomplishing a task. Communication: have proven ability to communicate successfully and confidently both verbally and in writing. You are proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web‑based programs. Confidentiality: You can use and exercise discretion and tact, while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality. Conflict Management: You identify steps to resolve negative conflicts sensibly, fairly and efficiently. You exhibit strong conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation skills. Customer Service: You create a positive experience when interacting with customers through communication, patience, empathy, and technical knowledge. Interpersonal Skills: You exhibit strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively with key stakeholders – residents, government agencies. Organizational Skills: You are highly organized, and you can process detailed information effectively and consistently. Problem Solving and Decision Making: You can exercise good judgement in decision making and effectively solve problems. Time Management: You have excellent time management skills and can work autonomously and seek out resources independently with limited direction.
