Overview SGS in partnership with H2Safety is looking for a Training Specialist (Emergency Response). H2Safety is seeking a dynamic Training Specialist to develop, deliver, and evaluate emergency response trainings tailored to client needs. This role includes creating engaging training materials, conducting sessions and drills, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining detailed records, and providing expert consultation. The specialist will also support business development efforts to enhance client preparedness and drive company objectives. Responsibilities Program Development Create training materials, including manuals, presentations, and hands-on exercises, ensuring they are up to date with current best practices and regulatory requirements. Training Delivery Facilitate both in-person and virtual training sessions, adapting content and delivery methods to suit different learning environments. Plan and conduct emergency response drills and simulations to test and reinforce client preparedness. Evaluate the outcomes of drills and provide detailed reports with recommendations for improvement. Evaluation and Improvement Assess the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, evaluations, and performance metrics. Compliance, Certification, and Documentation Ensure all training programs comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Assist clients in achieving and maintaining necessary certifications and compliance related to emergency response. Prepare and present reports on training effectiveness and areas for improvement to clients and company management. Collaborate with other H2Safety operational managers to align training with customer requirements and communication strategies. Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in emergency response and training methodologies. Qualifications Advanced training and experience in Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Relevant certifications such as Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent. A minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency response, safety training, or a related field. A valid Class 5 driver’s license with at least three years of reportable driving history in Canada. A clean or minimal demerit point driver’s abstract with no significant traffic violations. Must have the ability to travel to client sites as required. Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) is a requirement. In-depth knowledge of emergency response procedures, protocols, and best practices. Thorough understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and compliance requirements (e.g., BCER, AER, OSHA, NFPA). Familiarity with various training methodologies and adult learning principles. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, showing initiative and leadership in project execution. Strong ability to learn and teach software tools and applications, including the H2Safety Command Centre Software suite, which will be utilized in certain trainings. Ability to travel as this position requires extensive traveling mainly throughout Alberta. Preferred Skills Completion of an Adult Education certification and/or knowledge of adult learning principles. Experience developing new training content and/or working in a Learning Management System (LMS). Emergency response experience, understanding of emergency response plans (ERPs), and knowledge of emergency response-related legislation, regulations, and compliance. Oil and gas knowledge/industry work experience. This position can be permanent full-time but we are willing to consider candidates who would prefer to be a contractor.
