Our team plays a crucial role in the experience and performance of data processing. We are responsible for building user-facing features on top of the core query engine and helping to integrate query with other products in the MongoDB ecosystem. This includes enhancing our time-series product, extending language support for analytics, helping grow our Atlas Search and Vector Search products with database support and adding workload telemetry to provide greater insight into how our database is used.We have tons of interesting problems to solve with a direct impact on users for transactional, time-series, lexical and vector search and analytical workloads. The team is endeavoring to systematically rewrite every major component of our optimization and execution systems. We need your help to design and build the heart of a distributed, flexible schema, document database.We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in the United States or Canada for our hybrid working model.ResponsibilitiesBe directly responsible for delivering on goals which span a 6-18 month timeframePlay a key role in defining the roadmap for the next 12 monthsWrite well tested, production-ready code in C++ (our test infrastructure also leverages Python and Javascript)Research state-of-the art query systems to inform designLeverage deep knowledge of product strengths and industry trends to provide technical vision and directionAdvise management on decisions related to roadmap, processes, architecture and designCollaborate with stakeholders and engineering teams across the company on large initiativesInfluence and grow team members through mentoring, coaching, and leading by exampleHelp cultivate a strong talent bench through interviewing, mentoring and knowledge sharingQualifications10+ years of experience in data management systemsExperience with building production-level code with a large user base, robust design structure and rigorous code qualityDegree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent practical experience, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architectureExperience with large code bases written in C++ or another systems programming language; ability to trace defects, estimate work complexity, and design evolution and integration strategiesPassion for the theory and practice of database query engines, with hands-on or academic experience in the database domainSuccess MeasuresIn three months, contribute to a project for the next major version and fix bugs in a minor release; learn MongoDB project lifecycle and long-term goalsIn six months, take on code review responsibilities and help draft and review design for new features; present a relevant paper or system architectureIn twelve months, contribute to the long-term technical roadmap of the MongoDB Query teamCompensation and BenefitsMongoDB is committed to accommodations for individuals with disabilities in the application and interview process.
