The Tax Manager will oversee all facets of the organization's tax strategy, ensuring timely and accurate handling of tax matters. This encompasses various tax-related activities such as planning, reporting, compliance, and integration post-mergers. They will also lead a team, identify process enhancements, and ensure adherence to best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of personal tax returns, maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Track and oversee tax installment payments to avoid penalties and interest charges.
  • Oversee preparation and filing of corporation year-end files and tax returns with precision.
  • Handle preparation, review, and submission of HST returns, ensuring compliance.
  • Develop and execute tax planning strategies for enhanced efficiency and reduced liabilities.
  • Perform comprehensive cash flow analysis to support financial decision-making.
  • Supervise RRSP purchases and investments, aligning with financial goals and regulations.
  • Collaborate with US CPAs to optimize cross-border tax strategies.
  • Review and respond to tax assessments and notices promptly and accurately.
  • Provide strategic tax advice for acquisitions and development, mitigating risks.
  • Lead and guide tax accountants, ensuring compliance and collaboration with experts.
  • Coordinate financing activities with financial institutions, aligning with tax objectives.
  • Offer expertise on HST/GST/PST matters to optimize tax strategies.
  • Provide leadership and development for the tax team to ensure effectiveness.
  • Address investor inquiries regarding tax-related matters with clarity and precision.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities to enhance the overall effectiveness of the tax function.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (Advanced degree preferred).
  • CPA designation (preferably CPA, CA).
  • Completed relevant tax courses or master's degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of Canadian tax experience.
  • Expertise in Canadian tax laws.
  • Knowledge of real estate industry tax implications.
  • Experience with CRA audits and Appeals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative team player with experience in team management.
  • Strong decision-making and analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, with effective time management and organization skills.
