Our Team

TheWelder Fitter is a part of the Maintenance Department which isintegral for employee safety and Vale’s long-term operating strategy. Members of this team work across different locations to ensure all mine equipment are functioning effectively and safely. Team members are also involved in the development of long-term and short-term maintenance initiatives, practices and procedures.

Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking aWelder Fitterto join ourMaintenance DepartmentinSudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent position.

As a Welder Fitter, you will be responsible forall metal fabrication, metal welding,including pressure welding; brazing, cutting, and gouging. Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Read and interpret structural steel drawings, and pipe and pressure vessel drawings.
  • Lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, dismantle, modify and repair plate and structural steel, plant andmine equipment.
  • Align with work safety policies and safety regulations.

About You

Fully Licensed Journeyperson:

  • Trade Certification:The ideal candidate will have a Metal Fabricator / Plate worker (437A Red Seal) and CWB Certified.
  • Experience:4 or more years of progressive industry experience is preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to interpret and work off shop drawings in custom fabrication environment.
  • Experience with metal working equipment (shear, brake press, rolls, radial drill and power saws).
  • Knowledge of specific welding hazards to protect self and others is required.
  • Experience with rigging and material handling.
  • Knowledge of welding codes and standards.
  • Experience with oxy-fuel and plasma arc cutting.
