Position Overview

As a Lead Electrical Systems Drafter within our Client's electrical engineering team, the incumbent will not only create technical illustrations for complex marine systems but also manage and monitor a team of drafters. This role involves analyzing information provided by engineers, naval architects, and designers to develop technical drawings and ensure continuous improvement of design processes to meet stakeholders' needs.

Position Responsibilities

The Senior Drafter will be responsible for:

  • Leading and supervising a team of electrical drafters.
  • Developing and maintaining CAD drawing templates.
  • Improving design libraries, tools, and processes, including data transfer efficiency.
  • Ensuring quality control and assurance procedures for drawings.
  • Creating electrical wiring drawings and termination diagrams.
  • Developing component and equipment layout and arrangement CAD drawings.
  • Collaborating with internal and external engineering personnel to address design issues.
  • Liaising with production personnel for design clarification and feedback.
  • Providing technical illustrations for documentation and manuals.
  • Mentoring and supporting less experienced drafters.

Position Location

The incumbent will work from one of our Client's offices in North Vancouver, BC, and be available for collaboration during normal office hours. Minimal travel, less than 5% of working hours, is required for this role.

Position Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, preferably AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience with electrical single-line and schematic drawings.
  • Proficiency in Cadmatic, Navisworks, and/or other CAD software is an asset.
  • Experience with databases and SQL queries is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of electrical circuitry and design is an asset.

Skills:

  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and across multiple projects.
  • Strong time and resource management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
