The Opportunity Location: Ragged Lake, NS - Onsite Company, Department: Nova Scotia Power, Control Center Operations Type of Employment: Regular, Full Time Closing Date: January 20th, 2026 We are currently looking for an Outage Coordination Engineer in Training to join our Control Centre Operations team in a full‑time position. Reporting to the Grid Operations and Security Manager, you will be responsible for the coordination of generation, transmission, and distribution outages. Key Elements of This Role Create and maintain annual generation outage schedules across the NSPI Fleet in coordination with all transmission line maintenance, substation maintenance, capital projects, and distribution work. Communicate to all stakeholders the status and impacts of outages pending or in progress following the Open Access Transmission Tariff Standards of Conduct regulations where applicable. Ensure that system requirements for generation and reserve are met on a day‑ahead basis, in alignment with system restrictions posed by planned outages. Work with NSPI Fuels group to minimize the economic impact of major component outages. With the Outage Plan Coordinator, you will participate in daily, weekly, and annual meetings, and as required communicate outage plans and obtain approval of key stakeholders. Responsible for reviewing and approving all planned transmission switching procedures. Daily schedules and procedures will be provided to System Control Operators for execution. Ensure all outages have proper approval and supporting documentation before being included in the daily schedule given to System Control Operators. Participate in the daily Control Centre Operations meeting, updating the group on any outages in progress, recently completed, and new outages planned. You will also participate in meetings for planning major NSPI outages to ensure the outage process is followed. You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co‑workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. Required Competencies and Skills A Bachelors Degree in Engineering Full membership (or eligible for membership) in Engineers Nova Scotia as an EIT or P.Eng. Strong oral and written communication skills, a strong customer service ethic, good interpersonal skills, and ability to function effectively in a team environment. Self‑starter with proven organizational and analytical skills. Strong computer skills and attention to detail. Commitment to personal development. Knowledge of the NSPI power system and the outage coordination process is considered an asset. Valid driver’s license and availability to provide assistance/direction for after‑hour emergency service restoration. Note: The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check in accordance with NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.
