Marid Industries is a privately owned custom manufacturing and construction company based in Windsor Junction just outside of Metro Halifax. Marid is a full‑service contractor and fabricator with ample engineering capabilities. Responsibilities Steel Design / Quality Assurance Assist in the design of structural steel connections and miscellaneous metals. Assist with the Marid Quality Program and ensure that quality requirements are adhered to. Check erection drawings and shop details for changes that may need to be made and implement changes as required. Correspond with customers and clients to communicate design and contractual information. Occasionally draw shop details or sketches with AutoCAD in Bluebeam or by hand. Participate in site visits and inspections to ensure that work conforms to design drawings. Review erection drawings and ensure conformance to building codes, specifications and industry standards. Inform customers of irregularities and/or changes and ensure that all alterations are corrected. Planning Assist estimators in the preparation of estimates by providing preliminary calculations, sketches and designs. Assist Project Managers and tasks are moving forward according to plan and budget. Familiarize yourself with the advantages of structural steel and strive to achieve a better understanding of the steel construction industry. Participate in monthly toolbox meetings. Ensure Marid policies, procedures and processes are followed. Contribute to the ongoing initiatives of eliminating accidents and incidents in the workplace. Contribute to the ongoing efforts of ensuring a respectful workplace for all employees. Contribute to the ongoing efforts of the quality assurance and LEAN program. Participate in continuous improvement. Qualifications Education / Experience (preferred): Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering Experience is considered an asset Certifications / Licenses (preferred): Registered as an EIT with Engineers Nova Scotia Skills and Abilities: Language Ability: Read, analyze and interpret general business correspondence and technical documents; present information and respond to questions from managers, clients and employees. Math Ability: Work with math concepts such as percentages, ratios, areas and volumes; apply them to practical situations; competence in algebra and solving equations is required. Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Conceptual Ability: Think in abstract and creative ways and apply this to practical situations. Spatial Ability: Visualize an object in two and three dimensions. Professional / Technical Knowledge (preferred): Computer Skills: AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), RAM, Profic, Safi and various other engineering related software. Equipment: Computer; printer; telephone; calculator; photocopier; scanner On‑The‑Job‑Training Time (expected): Experience. Depending 1‑5 years until can obtain. Work Environment: Modern facility with air conditioning. Occasional construction areas with exposure to heat, cold, dirt, dust and moderate noise. Must wear PPE where applicable by law. Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit and talk or hear; occasionally reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch; occasionally lift up to 20 pounds; vision requirements include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
