Summary The Volunteer Well is a Canadian non-profit connecting volunteers with those in need, empowering communities, promoting inclusivity, and fostering kindness through innovative programs, events, and partnerships. About Us The Volunteer Well is a Canadian non-profit dedicated to fostering a more inclusive, compassionate society by directly connecting volunteers ("givers") with individuals in need ("receivers"). Through an innovative direct-source volunteering model, we empower individuals, strengthen families, and unite communities—especially those facing systemic barriers such as women, seniors, new immigrants, low‑income individuals, and marginalized groups. Our mission is carried out through our online digital portal, Generosity Hub (currently managed via a Facebook Private Group Marketplace), impactful inclusive programs and events, partnerships with businesses and philanthropists, and advocacy for generosity as a force for social change. By breaking down traditional barriers to support and promoting a culture of giving and receiving, we envision a world where kindness, justice, and human connection thrive. Why Join Us? Be part of a passionate team committed to strengthening communities and fostering human connection. Build meaningful relationships and connect with like‑minded individuals. Make a real impact while giving back to the community. Enjoy a sense of fulfillment by contributing to a cause that promotes inclusivity and support for those in need. Role Overview The Director of Fundraising & Sustainability is a governance-level board role charged with shaping and overseeing The Volunteer Well’s fundraising strategy and long-term financial stability. This Director provides high-level guidance on revenue generation—spanning grants, major gifts, corporate partnerships, and public campaigns—while ensuring sustainable practices that support the charity’s mission. Although this is not a hands‑on fundraising role, the Director leverages their network, expertise, and strategic insight to advise the Board and CEO on fundraising best practices, donor stewardship, and financial resilience. Key Responsibilities Governance & Strategic Oversight Lead the development and refinement of a multi‑year fundraising plan that aligns with mission priorities and growth targets. Provide the Board with regular updates on fundraising performance, emerging opportunities, and sector trends. Ensure all fundraising activities comply with CRA regulations, gift‑acceptance policies, and ethical standards. Fundraising & Sustainability Support Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and community stakeholders. Contribute to the organization’s financial sustainability by actively supporting fundraising initiatives, including leveraging corporate relationships and personal networks. Identify and advise on new funding streams—such as grants, cause‑related marketing, events, and online campaigns—to mitigate risk and increase financial resilience. Recommend policies and practices for effective recognition, reporting, and retention of donors at all levels. Collaboration & Role Boundaries Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Fundraising Committee without managing day‑to‑day fundraising operations. Work closely with Communications & Marketing to align messaging and impact stories with fundraising goals. Leverage personal and professional networks to open doors for sponsorships, in‑kind support, and partnership opportunities. Policy & Process Development Lead the creation and periodic review of gift‑acceptance policies, conflict‑of‑interest guidelines, and donor privacy practices. Advise on tools and systems for tracking prospects, managing pipelines, and reporting on key performance indicators. Collaborate with Finance and Governance Committees to identify and mitigate financial risks related to fundraising activities. Time Commitment & Expectations Term: Minimum 3‑year appointment, with option for renewal upon expiry. Monthly and Annual Commitment: At least 8 hours per month devoted to board‑level strategy, committee consultations, and fundraising advisory as well as additional strategic sessions with CEO/teams as necessary. Board Meeting Participation: Attend 4–6 board meetings per year (virtually or in person), plus the Annual General Meeting. Active Engagement: Provide timely strategic input on fundraising initiatives and sustainability planning without executing operational tasks. What We’re Looking For Senior‑level experience in nonprofit development, with a proven track record of securing grants, major gifts, and corporate partnerships. Ability to craft long‑term fundraising plans and adapt to evolving financial landscapes. Strong network within philanthropic, corporate, or community sectors; exceptional interpersonal and stewardship skills. Deep familiarity with Canadian charitable fundraising regulations and best‑practice governance. Comfortable advising across teams and committees, aligning fundraising with communications, programs, and finance. Skilled at designing KPIs, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to measure impact and inform decisions. Demonstrated alignment with equity, diversity, and inclusion principles; lived experience or allyship with marginalized communities is an asset. Requirements Minimum 16 years old.
