Temp Maintenance Tech / Winter Snowplow / CDL Driver – Rogers Pass (25142888) The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting temporary snowplow drivers with heavy equipment operation experience for winter road maintenance in the Rogers Pass section. Responsibilities include snow removal, right‑of‑way cleaning, guardrail fixing, fence and sign repair, luminaires maintenance, traffic control, and salt brine production. Responsibilities Snow removal, cleaning the right of way, and clearing traffic. Repair guardrail, fences, signs, and luminaires. Provide traffic control during winter operations. Produce and apply salt brine. Respond to emergency weather conditions, work on weekends and holidays as needed. Operate heavy equipment, truck, and construction machinery. Qualifications & Experience Must be available for emergency weather conditions and be able to work on weekends and holidays. Must be able to work in extreme weather, remain seated for extended periods, and perform moderate physical activity including lifting and operating tools. One (1) year experience driving a heavy truck or operating construction equipment. A valid Montana Commercial Operator's License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement, and a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC). Learner’s permit holders have 30 days to obtain the license. Maintenance Tech Level II requires one (1) year of documented experience in another city, county, or state highway road department for road maintenance. Maintenance Tech Level III requires three (3) or more years of documented experience in such departments. Experience level determines placement and wage. Drivers with a Class B CDL or with a learner’s permit are encouraged to apply. Other Information Temporary position up to six (6) months. Successful applicant must live or relocate within 45 road miles of the Rogers Pass section house and have a telephone or be reasonably accessible. Applicants will undergo a practical test and a behavioral‑based interview; additional testing dates may be added. This posting remains open until filled; applications are reviewed approximately every two weeks starting October 20. Driver’s record will be verified. Successful applicants must sign a release form authorizing the Department to obtain permanent driving records. Only electronic applications will be accepted.
