Canada – PhD and Postdoc in Biogas Membrane Technology at University of SherbrookeUniversity: University of SherbrookeCountry: CanadaDeadline: 2025-11-30Fields: Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Sustainable EnergyThe University of Sherbrooke, located in the province of Quebec, Canada, is renowned for its strong research culture, collaborative environment, and commitment to innovation. As one of Canada’s leading French-language universities, it fosters a vibrant academic community that attracts students and researchers from around the world. The Department of Chemical and Biotechnological Engineering at Sherbrooke is particularly recognized for its interdisciplinary research, cutting-edge laboratories, and active partnerships with industry leaders.Research Topic and Significance: The project focuses on the development of advanced membrane technologies for the purification and upgrading of biogas. Biogas, a renewable energy source produced through anaerobic digestion, consists mainly of methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), along with various impurities. Upgrading biogas to renewable natural gas (RNG) by removing CO₂ and impurities is essential for producing high-purity methane suitable for industrial applications and integration into the energy grid. With the Canadian government’s increasing incentives for renewable energy, RNG production is experiencing rapid growth across the country. This research directly supports the transition to a circular bioeconomy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and enhances the sustainability of energy systems.Project Details: Selected candidates will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary research team under the co-supervision of Prof. Wen Ma and Prof. Federico Galli in the Department of Chemical and Biotechnological Engineering at the University of Sherbrooke. The project involves close collaboration with the R&D team at Volta Energy and the Laboratory of Materials, Membranes, and Environment at Université Hassan II de Casablanca. The research encompasses membrane material synthesis, surface modification, gas separation processes, process design, and system evaluation.Candidate Profile – Ideal Applicants Will Have:A strong academic background in chemical engineering or a closely related field.Expertise in membrane science and technology, particularly as applied to gas separation and purification.Experience in materials synthesis and surface modification.Well-developed written and oral communication skills.Familiarity with process simulation and modeling (considered an asset but not essential).A collaborative mindset, curiosity for interdisciplinary research, and a strong motivation to contribute to sustainable energy solutions.Application Process: To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter (including names and contact details of two referees) and a CV via the following Google Form links: PhD: https://forms.gle/2PFsryxvK3mr7aTt8Postdoc: https://forms.gle/FmWVwuJ4Mz2ER1kTADeadline for applications is November 30, 2025. Applications are reviewed as they arrive, so early submission is encouraged. Candidates are also welcome to schedule a short meeting with the supervisors to learn more about the research environment. Conclusion: This is a unique opportunity to advance your research career in a field at the intersection of environmental sustainability and advanced engineering. If you are enthusiastic about contributing to renewable energy innovation and eager to develop your skills in a world-class research environment, consider applying to join the University of Sherbrooke’s team. #J-18808-Ljbffr
