University: University of SherbrookeCountry: CanadaDeadline: 2025-11-30Fields:Chemical EngineeringMaterials ScienceEnvironmental EngineeringBiotechnologySustainable EnergyOverviewAre you passionate about developing innovative solutions for renewable energy and eager to make a significant impact on the future of sustainable fuel technologies? If you are driven to advance your expertise in membrane-based purification and biogas upgrading, this opportunity at the University of Sherbrooke could be the ideal next step in your academic and professional journey.About the UniversityThe University of Sherbrooke, located in the province of Quebec, Canada, is renowned for its strong research culture, collaborative environment, and commitment to innovation. As one of Canada’s leading French-language universities, it fosters a vibrant academic community that attracts students and researchers from around the world. The Department of Chemical and Biotechnological Engineering at Sherbrooke is particularly recognized for its interdisciplinary research, cutting‑edge laboratories, and active partnerships with industry leaders.Research Topic and SignificanceThe research focuses on the development of advanced membrane technologies for the purification and upgrading of biogas. Biogas, a renewable energy source produced through anaerobic digestion, consists mainly of methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), along with various impurities. Upgrading biogas to renewable natural gas (RNG) by removing CO₂ and impurities is essential for producing high‑purity methane suitable for industrial applications and integration into the energy grid. This research supports the transition to a circular bioeconomy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and enhances the sustainability of energy systems.Project DetailsSelected candidates will join a multidisciplinary research team under the co‑supervision of Prof. Wen Ma and Prof. Federico Galli. The project involves close collaboration with the R&D team at Volta Energy and the Laboratory of Materials, Membranes, and Environment at Université Hassan II de Casablanca. Key research activities include membrane material synthesis, surface modification, gas separation processes, process design, and system evaluation.Candidate ProfileIdeal Applicants Will HaveA strong academic background in chemical engineering or a closely related field.Expertise in membrane science and technology, especially for gas separation and purification.Experience in materials synthesis and surface modification.Well‑developed written and oral communication skills.Familiarity with process simulation and modeling (considered an asset but not essential).A collaborative mindset, curiosity for interdisciplinary research, and a strong motivation to contribute to sustainable energy solutions.Application ProcessTo Apply, submit a cover letter (including names and contact details of two referees) and a CV via the following Google Form links:PhD: https://forms.gle/2PFsryxvK3mr7aTt8Postdoc: https://forms.gle/FmWVwuJ4Mz2ER1kTADeadline for applications is November 30, 2025. Applications are reviewed as they arrive, so early submission is encouraged. Candidates are also welcome to schedule a short meeting with the supervisors to learn more about the research environment. #J-18808-Ljbffr
