Description The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor in robotics and AI. The candidate will advance autonomous human‑aware robotic systems, contribute to research on robot learning, control, vision, autonomy, and human‑robot interaction, and collaborate with partners across the University’s research centers such as AMII and iSMART. Teaching responsibilities include leading courses in a new Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Cooperative undergraduate program and mentoring students in research, capstone projects, and student clubs. The successful applicant will also participate in graduate supervision, professional development, and university service. Responsibilities (40% teaching, 40% research, 20% service) Teaching (40%): Design and deliver courses, supervise student research, and advise students. Eligible Professional Engineer or Licensee in Alberta required within five years of hire. Research (40%): Conduct innovative research in autonomous robots, human‑robot interaction, and AI, publish in peer‑reviewed venues, and secure external funding. Service (20%): Contribute to departmental, faculty, and university governance; engage in outreach and public dissemination of research. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Computer Science. Strong record of publishing in reputable, peer‑reviewed journals and conferences. Progress toward licensure as a Professional Engineer (APEGA) or a similar credential; must be obtained within five years from hire. Demonstrated ability to engage learners in the engineering curriculum. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Assets Industry experience in engineering or technology sectors. Experience leading interdisciplinary research projects, managing large multi‑year grants. Experience collaborating with industry and community partners. Lab, facility, and team management experience. Teaching experience, training in lesson planning and curriculum design. Community engagement, service, and outreach to under‑represented groups. Grant writing and financial management experience.
