Join our team The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Vancouver Acute, invites applications for a full-time Clinical Laboratory Geneticist position based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Vancouver is a beautiful city located on the shore of the Straight of Georgia, on the Canadian West Coast and benefits from temperate weather, allowing year-round outdoor activities.

Vancouver General Hospital supports organ transplant services, the provincial leukemia/bone marrow transplant program, oncology services, complex cardiac surgery, reconstructive orthopedics, and is a regional trauma centre.

Clinical responsibilities include shared coverage with triage, review, interpretation, reporting and expert consultation for adult constitutional and hematologic cancer specimens assessed using a range of cytogenetic and molecular genetic assays, including Optical Genome Mapping. The candidate will also contribute to laboratory accreditation, laboratory quality assurance, development and monitoring of assay protocols and administrative duties. Opportunity exists for cross-coverage depending on the competencies and interests of the applicant.

The successful candidate will join our growing team of Laboratory Geneticists in a busy Cytogenomics Laboratory. With a clinical appointment at UBC in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, they will engage in departmental research and teaching programs, including undergraduate and graduate students as well as resident training. Furthermore, they will participate in administrative tasks, including committee work, collaboration in health authority initiatives and research.

Qualifications
A PhD degree in genetics and certification or eligibility for certification in Cytogenetics, Genetics and Genome Diagnostics, or Dual Certification in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics by the College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) are required. Preference will be given to those applicants certified in both cytogenetics and molecular genetics.

Compensation
Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience. Comprehensive employee benefits are offered. VCHA and UBC hire on the basis of merit and are committed to employment equity.

The search will be ongoing until a suitable candidate is identified. The position is available immediately, or at the availability of the successful candidate.

In accordance with Canadian Employment and Immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada. UBC and its affiliates hire on the basis of merit and are committed to employment equity. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. Only short-listed applicants will be contacted.
