This position will require the management of a small Canadian group within TSRC involved with regulatory development, certification, and compliance to all applicable Canadian and Provincial vehicle environmental regulations. These include GHG/ZEV/criteria emissions, SOCs, Extended Producer Responsibility regulations and Fuel Consumption Label and EV Battery Recovery programs. This position requires working with external affairs, legal groups, industry associations and its members, government agencies, product planning, vehicle and powertrain engineering, and others as needed.

Job responsibilities include but not limited to:
  1. Regulatory Development:
    • Contribute to the creation of joint industry perspectives on the policies and regulations for the industry
    • Work closely with internal and external N.A. and Global regulation development teams to align policies and regulations
    • Contribute as part of a team of technical experts analyzing and evaluating new technology and the detailed impact to GHGs, emissions, and component or material life cycle management
  2. Certification and Compliance:
    • Ensure products comply with regulatory requirements
    • Execute reporting compilation and submissions within regulated timelines
    • Continued development and streamlining of reporting formats and data retrieval systems
  3. Product Planning:
    • Shape the future of the automotive industry by analyzing new technologies and influencing the product plans and rules that govern introduction
    • Interact with experts from around the enterprise including Powertrain, Vehicle Engineering, Product Planning, Compliance Planning, Business & Legal Affairs to support and influence the compliance strategy

This position requires reaching consensus on technical issues during regulatory development with internal and external stakeholders. The role will rely heavily on your technical expertise and ability to communicate effectively to convince others of the needed responses. The successful candidate will be able to rationalize business and technical perspectives to contribute to internal (e.g., planning, powertrain, etc.) and external stakeholder discussions (e.g., government, industry, etc.). Strong communication skills are a positive.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Applied Science from an accredited school
  • Minimum FIVE (5) years of experience in EV technologies, powertrain systems, emissions, fuel economy, engine development and calibration, or automotive materials end-of-life management
  • An interest in energy and circular economy policies and their impact on transportation sector
  • Self-motivated, critical thinker with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Enjoys working with data, scrutinizing for accuracy, and managing people
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Engineering and/or MBA degree
  • Bilingual (English & French)
