Based in Edmonton, Alberta, it upholds its vision of nurturing a faith-filled life of service. Role Description This is an on-site, full-time role as Manager, Capital Projects, based in Edmonton, AB. The Manager, Capital Projects is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and management of capital projects, improvements, and the modular classroom program to ensure safe and efficient school environments. This role involves strategic planning, project management, and providing technical expertise to support the Division's infrastructure needs. By leading construction and improvement projects, the Manager contributes to the Division's goals of maintaining high standards for educational facilities and fostering a positive learning environment. The position also focuses on team development, project management system improvements, and collaboration with stakeholders to achieve organizational objectives. The Manager, Capital Projects participates in the Facility Services department’s management team and contributes to short- and long-term strategic planning activities that align with Division goals and objectives. Responsibilities & Activities Manage Capital Projects, Improvements, and Modular Classroom Program (50%) Lead the strategic planning and execution of major and minor construction projects, ensuring they are completed within budget and timelines. Manage and support a team of professionals who lead new school projects, ensuring alignment with Division standards and educational goals. Manage the delivery and implementation of the annual Modular Classroom Program. Provide guidance and direction on design and construction standards. Review and approve project drawings and specifications prepared by architects and engineers. Act as the technical subject matter expert for construction and improvement projects, providing technical support to the Division. Collaborate closely with the Manager, Maintenance Services to ensure operational efficiency and maintain consistency in service delivery in relation to the overall management of the Division infrastructure. Strategic Planning Leadership (20%) Participate in the department's and Division's short- and long-term strategic planning activities. Analyze and report on infrastructure trends and data to inform strategic decision-making. Develop and present strategic initiatives and proposals to senior leadership for approval and implementation. Provide input on infrastructure needs and priorities, ensuring alignment with Division goals and objectives. Collaborate with principals and other stakeholders to determine needs, priorities, and goals. Team Development (20%) Coordinate with the Human Resource Department to address any issues related to staff, including performance management, training, and development. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to enhance team performance and employee engagement. Lead the recruitment and selection processes to ensure the team is staffed with qualified and capable individuals. Develop and implement workforce and succession planning strategies to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the team. Project Management System Improvements (10%) Act as the Project Management Office for the Department by being responsible for developing, implementing, and adjusting project management best practices and procedures with the goal of continuous improvement. Develop and implement project management processes, templates, and methodologies to ensure consistency, efficiency, and alignment with PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge). Provide training and support to project managers and staff on project management best practices. Monitor and report on the progress of projects, ensuring alignment with Division goals and objectives. Knowledge Degree in Engineering with related P. Eng designation is required. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset. Minimum of five years of management or supervisory experience in a building maintenance related setting. Understanding of construction and renovation principles, practices, and projects. Knowledge of human resource management theories, practices, and principles, including collective agreements. Familiarity with financial policies and procedures, tender processes, and contract law. Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Board, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) legislation, acts, and regulations. General knowledge of the Division’s operations and business and general understanding of the Division’s mission and vision in a faith-based environment. Knowledge of records management principles, the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and the Access to Information Act (ATIA). Knowledge of workplace safety and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety regulations. Knowledge and alignment with the Division's administrative procedures. Skills Proficiency in project management tools and software. Strong negotiation, analytical, and conflict resolution skills. Advanced time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong consultation and needs assessment skills.
