About Us
At the Department of Community Services (DCS), we are a large and diverse department providing a broad portfolio of programs and services including Child and Family Wellbeing (CFW), Employment Support Services(ESS), Income Assistance (IA), Homelessness and Supportive Housing, and Disability Support Program(DSP).
Through our services, we advocate and help vulnerable Nova Scotians be independent, self-reliant, and secure. We work collaboratively across the province with a strong dedicated network of supports and staff, to achieve desired and shared outcomes for all.
About Our Opportunity
Join our team at Wood Street Campus, where we are dedicated to nurturing the growth and success of youth under the care of the Minister of Community Services.
We are committed to guiding our youth towards becoming thriving members of our community. The opportunity to positively shape their futures is both fulfilling and demanding, calling for a driven and vibrant individual.
As our Clinical Therapist, you play a central role within our interdisciplinary team, collaborating to deliver comprehensive diagnostic, assessment, and treatment services for youth facing complex emotional and behavioural challenges.
Your expertise will be instrumental in providing tailored support and consultation; empowering youth to develop essential skills and thrive in their community environments.
This role offers a unique chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable youth, guiding them towards brighter futures.
Primary Accountabilities
You'll be at the forefront of our comprehensive care approach, where every day brings new opportunities to make a difference.
From conducting clinical interventions to leading group therapy sessions, you'll be instrumental in guiding our youth toward brighter journeys. But that's just the beginning

As our Clinical Therapist, you'll also provide invaluable consultation on behavioural analysis and management techniques. You'll be a key player in crafting and refining intervention plans, ensuring they're tailored to each individual's needs. Using your creative and innovative approaches, you'll develop and facilitate workshops and training sessions for both our youth and their families.
In addition, your expertise will guide the implementation, assessment, and evaluation of personalized treatment and discharge plans, working hand in hand with our youth, their families, and our partners to ensure every step of their journey is a success.
Qualifications and Experience
You have completed your Masters degree in a clinical discipline such as Counselling Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or a related degree which includes a practical element of training experience in delivering mental health treatment and assessments.
You must be eligible for registration, or be registered by, the Nova Scotian or Canadian regulatory body or professional association related to the qualifying education.

We're seeking a candidate who:
excels in both interpersonal connections and autonomous work, seamlessly transitioning between independent tasks and collaborative efforts within our Interdisciplinary Team.
can navigate routine matters and crises alike with decisive action and sound judgment.
has a solid understanding of human behavior, coupled with considerable insight into youth motivation for change.
Experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and/or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy will be highly valued assets, which will enrich your therapeutic offerings.
Familiarity with long-term treatment programs, proficiency in providing clinical supervision, and experience developing and implementing youth programs will set you apart as an ideal candidate for this role.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
Benefits
Based on the employment status and union agreement, the Government of Nova Scotia offers its employees a wide range of benefits such as a Defined Benefit Pension Plan, Health, Dental, Life Insurance, General illness, Short and Long Term Disability, Vacation and Employee and Family Assistance Programs.

These children also demonstrate harmful/aggressive behaviours and the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Model (NCI) is utilized to manage these behaviours. You must be physically able to implement NCI techniques.

Hours of work may include evenings to deliver programming and provide individual and group counselling and therapy.

You must maintain an elevated sense of awareness/alertness such as listening to residents' conversations and observing interactions.
