Location: Calgary, AB

Objectives:
Our client, a professional engineering firm, has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Designer and Drafter. The successful candidate will provide CAD drafting services for upstream oil and gas facilities, pipelines and carbon capture projects. This includes designing Low and Medium Voltage engineering schematics for electrical installation, transmission and distribution systems; in collaboration with vendors, engineers and clients. They will contribute to diverse projects, each ranging from $1 million to $200 million total capital cost.

Qualifications:

At a minimum, we require:
Accredited technical degree or diploma (e.g., Electrical Engineering Technology).
5+ years of experience providing electrical design and drafting services for oil and gas facilities and pipelines.
Experience using drafting and design software such as AutoCAD, CADWorx, and Bluebeam.

Ideally, you also have:
Professional Technologist (P.Tech.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation.

Responsibilities:

Electrical System Design and Drafting
Study blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings and work order requests to determine requirements and type of service (e.g., area classification, power distribution, grounding, lighting, control systems, and equipment specification and selection).
Visit proposed installation sites and backdraft as builts.
Design or modify Low and Medium Voltage engineering schematics for electrical installation, transmission and distribution systems, using AutoCAD.
Draft working drawings, wiring diagrams, wiring connection specifications, or cross-sections of cables, as required.
Assemble documentation packages and produce drawing sets to be checked by an engineer.
Review completed construction drawings and cost estimates for accuracy and conformity to standards and regulations.

Consultation and Collaboration
Review work orders or procedural manuals and confer with vendors or design staff to resolve problems or modify design.
Consult with engineers to discuss or interpret design concepts, or determine requirements of detailed working drawings.
Explain drawings to production or construction teams and provide adjustments, as necessary.
Take part in project estimating, scheduling and status reporting.
