Ballard’s Quality Team has an immediate opening for a Quality Engineer/ Specialist (QE) to join our dynamic and cohesive quality team The new QE must be passionate about quality and champion quality culture throughout Ballard. With Ballard’s global reach, the QE must see how quality underpins everything we do and communicate effectively from production to the customer, and from process engineers to designers. On a day‑to‑day level, the QE will ensure that products produced by Ballard meet customer requirements and quality standards, support new product introductions, disseminate lessons learned, and drive continuous improvements. The QE will work largely independently with minimal supervision and will help resolve quality issues in production. The QE will be involved in advanced product quality planning (APQP) activities, from product design and design verification testing through process design, validation, and continuous improvement; and in FRACAS processes (NCRs and QCRs) focusing on root‑cause analysis, problem prevention, cost of poor quality, MRB, control of non‑conforming products, yields, etc. Responsibilities Involvement in day‑to‑day implementation of APQP across various functional and program teams Quality representative in internal/customer PPAP, change‑management process, MSA, SPC to ensure quality standards are maintained Acting as quality representative in quality improvement projects and/or sustaining projects Recommending solutions that improve product quality, durability, and overall performance Driving and initiating continuous improvement using customer feedback to enhance satisfaction Participating in FRACAS problem‑solving and corrective actions as part of program support Close interactions with process/manufacturing engineers, production staff, operations team, product development engineers and purchasing team to rapidly identify and resolve issues and put corrective actions in place to prevent recurrence Leading cross‑functional teams to react quickly when mitigation and control are needed to ensure the integrity of Ballard’s make products Involvement in internal audit program, focusing on key manufacturing processes Reviewing and understanding key process metrics and KPIs Participating in Quality as a Priority company‑wide initiatives, and in Quality College Requirements Bachelor’s degree in engineering 3‑5+ years of progressive experience as a Quality Engineer in manufacturing/automotive industry Deep knowledge of quality management systems, preferably IATF16949 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while joining cross‑functional teams and facilitating technical discussions General quality background: measurement techniques, measurement systems analysis, inspection sampling plans, quality tools, 8D problem solving and root‑cause analysis Analytical skills with understanding of statistics applied to quality (SPC/MSA) Strong verbal and written communication skills – ability to explain complex concepts to a broad audience Detail‑oriented with strong record‑keeping and organizational skills Thrives in a dynamic, fast‑paced team environment; adaptability to change is a must Ability to manage multiple issues simultaneously and act with urgency Hands‑on experience with testing methodologies is an advantage Knowledge of quality core tools, including DFMEA, PFMEA, SPC, MSA, PPAP is advantageous Strong knowledge and experience in new product development preferred ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred ASQ Certified Quality Auditor beneficial Knowledge of PEM fuel cells beneficial The typical hiring range for this position is $75,000‑$93,840.
