OverviewProducer position with Absolutely Canadian and the Creator Network (English Services), on-site in Vancouver, BC. The role involves mentoring independent filmmakers and content creators to develop documentary projects for CBC’s platforms, aligning with Absolutely Canadian and Creator Network objectives.ResponsibilitiesSeek out and connect with emerging independent documentary filmmakers and content creators from diverse communities, building relationships with filmmakers new to CBC.Collaborate with CBC programmers to identify opportunities and platforms for Absolutely Canadian and Creator Network content and support strategic rollout.Work with indie filmmakers to create promotional materials to support film releases internally and externally.Provide clear feedback and creative guidance on pitches, treatments, scripts and rough cuts.Ensure creators deliver content meeting CBC editorial standards.Guide filmmakers on best technical practices to meet CBC’s technical specifications.Ingest, process and archive films for use on CBC platforms, including editing, clipping and writing for TV, Gem, social platforms and FAST.Communicate regularly with the executive producer and the Absolutely Canadian and Creator Network teams to share learnings and brainstorm possibilities.Connect with CBC production staff in BC and Alberta to foster a sense of belonging at CBC stations.Coordinate across departments (Business & Rights, Finance, Communications) to support projects.Update and maintain content and creator tracking documents (Google Workspace).Take risks, try new creative treatments, and critically review the success of each project with the executive producer.QualificationsMinimum five years of experience in digital, TV and radio media and documentary production or a similar field.Experience and passion for mentoring freelance contributors and independent producers, especially from underrepresented communities.Some familiarity with funding streams and the business of independent Canadian filmmaking.Independent and self-motivated, with strong teamwork.Commitment to diversity and an inclusive, respectful work culture.Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.Strong communication and critical thinking skills.Solid understanding of journalistic and programming policies, standards and practices.Familiarity with talent agreements and freelance contracts.Superior writing, vetting and editing skills; track record of creativity and problem-solving.Knowledge of the digital space, trends, and public relations/marketing of films.Attention to detail and ability to maintain tracking documents.Ability to work varied shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.Post-secondary degree or equivalent.Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
