Join TEC as a Senior Policy Advisor, Indigenous Relations. In this strategic role, you’ll help ensure Indigenous perspectives are meaningfully integrated into Alberta’s transportation and economic corridor initiatives. Your work will directly support TEC’s commitment to building respectful, collaborative partnerships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and advocacy groups—advancing shared goals and enhancing the province’s prosperity. As a Senior Policy Advisor, you will provide expert policy advice, strategic coordination, and relationship-building support across TEC divisions. Reporting to the Indigenous Relations Manager, you’ll play a key role in navigating complex, politically sensitive issues, supporting engagement activities, and contributing to long-term planning. Your ability to communicate clearly, think holistically, and collaborate across teams will be essential to advancing TEC’s Indigenous engagement priorities and ensuring alignment with broader government objectives. Providing strategic policy advice, briefing materials, and recommendations to TEC leadership. Supporting the development of policies, procedures, and long-range planning initiatives. Building collaborative relationships with Indigenous leadership, communities, and advocacy groups. Contributing to engagement activities that reflect Indigenous perspectives and ministry priorities. Coordinating with other government departments to ensure strategic alignment and shared outcomes. Managing emerging issues and contributing to risk mitigation strategies in sensitive contexts. Participating in cross-functional teams to support grant programs and Indigenous engagement projects. Representing TEC at forums and meetings to foster dialogue and multi-lateral collaboration. This position requires travel throughout Alberta—typically less than 25% of the work schedule. It offers a varied work environment that includes both field and office-based activities, ideal for individuals who enjoy a flexible and hands‑on approach to their work. Creative Problem Solving: You apply judgment and creativity to develop innovative solutions that address diverse interests and support TEC’s strategic priorities in Indigenous relations. Systems Thinking: You connect Indigenous perspectives with TEC’s broader objectives, identifying long‑term implications and fostering cross‑ministry collaboration to ensure sustainable, inclusive policy outcomes. Qualifications Required: A related university degree (e.g., Public Administration, Public Policy, Indigenous Studies, Political Science, etc.), and a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a policy or program environment. Equivalencies may be considered. Proven ability to analyze complex issues, research and synthesize information, and prepare clear, actionable recommendations. Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent. Preferred: Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations. Strong knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, governance, and political structures. Demonstrated understanding of the policy development cycle. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, and visual). Equivalencies are: A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education. This position is a permanent, full‑time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm). Location: Twin Atria Building, 4999 98 Ave, Edmonton, AB T6B 2X Please note that the current hybrid work model will end in January 2026.
