Job Title: Senior Policy Advisor – Requisition ID: 77245 – Department: Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration – Location: Edmonton – Full Time – Hours: 36.25 per week – Classification: Program Services 4 – Salary: $3,056.50 to $4,006.62 bi‑weekly (equivalent to $79,774 – $104,572 per year) – Closing Date: November 20, 2025.

The Economic Strategy and Investment Division focuses on the development of strategies and policies to support Alberta’s job‑creating investments.

Position Summary

The Senior Policy Advisor is part of the Economic Policy and Investment Competitiveness Branch and the Industry Competitiveness and Policy Unit. Working closely with managers, directors, colleagues in JETI, and key stakeholders across ministries, the Advisor prepares strategic reports, briefings, and communications. The role requires strong problem solving, systems thinking, decision‑making, relationship development, and business communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and communicate high‑quality research and analysis on competitiveness issues and opportunities related to productivity, logistics, regulatory reform, and industry growth.

- Provide impartial, well‑reasoned, well‑supported, and impactful advice on competitiveness issues in the industrial economy to position Alberta as a highly competitive destination for job‑creating investment.

- Advance policy work to support the removal of barriers to growth in Alberta’s airport industry, enhancing provincial economic competitiveness.

- Create collaborative networks within the Department and across the Government.

- Other related duties as assigned that support the purpose of the job without expanding the main responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education: University graduation in Economics, Policy Studies, Public Administration, Business, or a related field.

Experience: Four years of progressively responsible, applied policy experience in a government setting, with demonstrated expertise in policy development, approval processes, and implementation. Key skill areas include: strategic planning, policy design, options analysis, report writing, briefing, quantitative and qualitative research, and knowledge of Alberta’s economy and legislative context.

Other qualifications include strong written and verbal communication, project management, time management, and the ability to work effectively in a team and independently.

Employment Conditions
