Your role within the team:

Reporting to a Project Engineering Director, the Project Engineering Manager manages individuals and teams executing commercial and internal work packages and projects, in a single discipline or set of closely related disciplines.

Identifies gaps in the size or technical capabilities of the team relative to forecast requirements and develops and executes a plan to close those gaps through a combination of hiring, releasing and developing staff.Hires and releases staff, secondees and contractors, as required.
Training and Mentorship:
  1. As necessary, organizes, develops and/or delivers project-specific training courses.
  2. Ensures all project training and qualifications records are up-to-date, and required training and qualifications are completed/updated on time.
  3. Develop, maintain and execute training, development, qualification, knowledge transfer and succession plans for the team.
  4. Mentors and/or organizes mentoring of staff to maintain and improve staff performance and department technical capabilities.

Staff Performance and Performance Reviews:
  1. Helps staff set SMART objectives aligned with project demands.
  2. Provides clear expectations and performance measures, meaningful feedback, recognize and reward achievements.
  3. Tracks, analyzes and develops/executes plans to improve project Key Performance Indicators and objectives for their teams.
  4. Accountable for performance review processes and provides feedback on the performance of staff reporting to this role.
  5. Accountable for hire/fire processes for staff reporting to this role.
  6. Responsible for human resource issues and effectively manage and resolve employee issues.

Project Execution:
  1. Approves technical documents prepared by staff reporting to them.
  2. Plans and executes work consistent with quality, cost and schedule requirements.
  3. Removes barriers that would impact deliverables to meet project requirements and priorities, working with the assigned staff to find solutions and optimizations.
  4. Provides technical advice to staff and management.
  5. Ensures that work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures.
  6. Ensures all project engineering activities are performed in accordance with both statutory requirements and best practices in safety and quality.
  7. Fosters a team environment and team building within Engineering and with internal and external customers.
  8. Oversees cost, timeliness, quality and technical adequacy of the work through regular reviews and evaluations.
  9. Interfaces with clients and successfully delivers engineering products in accordance with customer specifications and requirements.

      1. University degree in an applicable field of engineering or science.
      2. 8 years of progressive experience in a discipline and field of application relevant to the work being managed, including experience leading technical teams.
      3. Demonstrated ability to manage complex and parallel technical projects.
      4. Demonstrated business acumen with a strong commercial orientation.

      Additional, preferred qualifications (mandatory for some projects):
      1. Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and member in good standing or eligible to obtain such registration within 6 months of hiring;
      2. 8 years of nuclear technology experience including experience leading engineering teams.
      3. Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada.
      4. Ability to obtain and maintain a Level 2 security clearance.
      5. Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet corporate needs.
