Work Arrangements This position requires full‑time physical presence at the NRC Ottawa location. Program Overview PDFs are offered appointments on a term basis with salaries and benefits comparable to Research Officers, including a travel fund. PDFs will have the opportunity to conduct innovative research, develop skills, and publish. Project Title Next‑Generation Models for Brain Cancer: 3D Bioprinted CNS‑on‑Chip Systems for Advancing Glioblastoma Drug Discovery. Responsibilities Design, fabricate, and optimize 3D bioprinted constructs and microfluidic chips for vascularised GBM models. Integrate multiple human cell types to mimic tumour and vascular compartments. Characterise tumour–BBB interactions using microscopy, molecular, and functional assays. Evaluate therapeutic responses, including immunotherapies, under dynamic flow conditions. Collaborate across disciplines in bioengineering, oncology, and tissue engineering. Education & Qualification Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Neuroscience, Cellular & Molecular Medicine, Biophysics or a closely related field. Experience Experience in 3D bioprinting, tissue and/or biomaterial engineering. Experience developing 3D cell culture systems such as spheroids, organoids, or bioprinted constructs. Experience with mammalian cell culture and BSL‑2 laboratory practices. Experience in molecular, phenotypic, and functional assays for characterising in‑vitro models.Experience analysing and interpreting complex datasets, including imaging and quantitative biology data. Additional assets: microfluidics and organ‑on‑chip systems; microfabrication techniques. Language Requirements English proficiency required. Eligibility Fellows for 2 years contingent on satisfactory progress in the first year. Ph.D. earned on or after July 1 2023 or expected to complete within 6 months of appointment. Applicants must be eligible under NRC employment policies; Canadian citizens or permanent residents preferred. Compensation Salary range: $83,985 to $116,641 CAD.
