Its energy field stores carry a specialized product line focused on the needs of energy industry customers. Its steel distributors operations act as master distributors selling steel in large volumes to other steel service centers and large equipment manufacturers mainly on an "as is" basis.

Russel Metals is currently seeking an individual for the position of Buyer for our Saint John, NB Branch. We are looking for a self-starter who has superior organizational and administrative skills. The successful candidate will be driven to provide outstanding customer service and a key member of a fast-paced team.

This is a salaried, full-time, permanent position with work hours from Monday - Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the inventory levels by product to satisfy future sales requirements while maintaining effective asset control.
  • To be responsible for the complete and accurate preparation of all documentation pertaining to the purchase and/or revisions of inventory requirements.
  • Monitor and participate in the coordination of inventory requirements for specific contract accounts that have committed stocking programs with our branch.
  • Familiar with procedures of importing/exporting products with correct tariffs, shipping manifests, duty drawback forms and exchange rates.
  • Work closely with Managers to advise of changing market/supply situations and impending problems which may occur with incoming materials.
  • Be familiar with all relevant suppliers, their product ranges and capabilities while exploring opportunities with new suppliers for products and services.
  • Coordinate, negotiate and issue proper documentation to satisfactorily settle any claims.
  • Coordinate and negotiate incoming traffic requirements with reputable carriers at competitive rates.
  • Identify and communicate slow moving items to prevent excess.
  • Participate in and support corporate purchasing programs.
  • To assist with various administrative responsibilities.

Education and Skill Requirements:

  • Effective negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, time management and organizational skills.
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Post-Secondary education in the field of Metallurgy and/or Business Administration.
  • Previous purchasing experience within the Steel Service Center Industry would be an asset.
