Clinical Service Lead - Spiritual Health Position Summary As an integral part of the EMHC’s treatment team, the Director of Spiritual Health is responsible to provide leadership and assistance in meeting the spiritual health care and religious needs of recipients of EMHC services by way of organizing and delivering structured spiritual care / pastoral visitation, educational activities and opportunities for patients consistent with their spiritual / religious traditions and in collaboration with community clergy and spiritual care providers. The Director of Spiritual Health also provides oversight of the Volunteer Services and Therapeutic Activities within EMHC and EHCS. The Eden Health Care Services (EHCS) responsibilities beyond the EMHC program area include providing spiritual care support and education to all program areas of the organization, including: serving as a spiritual health resource to Eden Health Care Services, its’ Board and regional program staff as appropriate and to the broader Eden constituency including pastors, faith leaders and other caregivers. Qualifications Education/Certification: University level degree related to Health and Spirituality (Master’s degree preferred). Course work must include psychology, sociology, spirituality/religious studies, theology, counselling, grief and loss/thanatology, cultural safety, philosophy/ethics, and leadership development. Preference may be given to a candidate who is a graduate of a faith-based university or seminary having achieved a Masters of Divinity or Theology. Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) will be considered. Certification as a Specialist in Pastoral care with CASC is an asset. Additional Training: Preference may be given to candidates who have training in: Mental Health & Addictions, Manitoba Indigenous Cultural Safety, Health Ethics-Equity, Dignity Therapy, Advance Care Planning, Applied Counselling. Experience: Institutional spiritual care experience – particularly in the mental health field. Knowledge, Skills and Ability: Understanding of mental health issues. Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred. Knowledge of recovery-oriented models of care, therapeutic programming, and patient-centered practices. Ability to work effectively one on one and in group settings. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to relate to people of various backgrounds. Knowledge of managing a departmental budget. Strong understanding of the benefits of utilizing volunteers in a publicly-funded organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems. Other Requirements and Conditions of Employment Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (with the Vulnerable Sector Check). Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check. Satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Current Vehicle Registration, indicating 3rd Party Liability Insurance of $1,000,000 or more. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Direct Spiritual Health and Religious Care Maintains a visible spiritual care presence on the inpatient unit by way of regular visitation, prayer, and facilitation and access to cultural traditions by patient request or staff/team referral. Plans and conducts regular chapel services for patients. Provides opportunities for religious and spiritual growth; e.g., through spiritual care groups. Provides spiritual and religious literature and symbols. Provides support and spiritual encouragement to staff. Indirect Spiritual Health and Religious Care Coordinates worship services provided by community religious groups and clergy. Facilitates patient connection to faith groups of their choice while in care and in the period of transition back into the community at discharge. Completes Spiritual Assessments on request. Documents interactions on patient charts. Orders resource material for worship, education and other spiritual health program needs. Oversight of Therapeutic Program Activities Provide supervision, mentorship, and scheduling support to TPAA’s. Monitor delivery of therapeutic activities to ensure alignment with individualized care plans. Support TPAA’s in activity planning, risk management, documentation, and patient engagement. Evaluate TPAA performance, providing feedback and professional development opportunities. Collaborate with the treatment team to plan, coordinate, and evaluate therapeutic activities on the inpatient unit. Ensure activities promote socialization, functional ability, and recovery-based principles. Assist in organizing group and individual programming, including wellness, recreational, and skill-building activities. Oversee activity schedules, ensuring adequate staffing, preparation, and safe delivery of programs. Secondary Duties Teaching and Administration Facilitates or organizes education sessions for staff on spirituality and spiritual health. Acts as an educational resource within areas of expertise. Advocates to ensure spiritual needs are addressed. Provides leadership in identifying and developing processes to address ethical issues. Participates as an active member on EHCS Committees, as appropriate. Facilitates education and orientation for community clergy, spiritual care providers, and volunteers to Eden Mental Health Centre. Maintains an up to date filing system on all matters pertaining to spiritual health. Community Involvement and Outreach Develops and maintains positive relationships with community clergy/spiritual care providers and the sponsoring constituency. Available as a resource to clergy and spiritual care providers. Maintains membership and participation in related organizations; e.g. Winkler & Morden Ministerial Associations. Builds relationships with other Ministerial organizations in Altona, Carman, Portage, as well as First Nations leaders and other community faith leaders within the health region. Relates to spiritual health/care providers in other health care facilities. Educates and advocates in the community for religious/spiritual health needs of persons with mental illness. Provides consultation to Community Mental Health staff on request. Provides education and acts as a resource to Southern Health Santé Sud Mental Health practitioners relating to spiritual health care and religious traditions. Develops Volunteer Program objectives and implements evaluation to ensure overall effectiveness of the program. Prepares and monitors budget for the Volunteer Program. Recruits, interviews, orientates and places volunteers considering their skills, preferences, needs and the current needs of Eden programs. Updates and maintains policies and procedures related to the Volunteer Program. Provides encouragement and support necessary to facilitate a sense of teamwork among staff and volunteers. Encourages and supports implementation of ongoing training, supervision and evaluation procedures for all volunteers. Maintains a working relationship with program staff as well as with individual volunteers and relevant community organizations. Ensures that all volunteers receive appropriate recognition through both formal and informal methods. Maintains personnel files for volunteers, including: application form, signed position description, confidentiality and commitment form(s), record of time involvement, training received and evaluation. Personnel files of volunteers working one-on-one with patients/clients also include: Criminal Record Check, Adult and Child Abuse Registry Check(s) and proof of valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license (if applicable). Provides updated volunteer lists for each program. Prepares monthly calendar listing volunteer related activities for the inpatient unit. Compiles and documents statistics and financial/budget information regarding the Volunteer Program for Administration and for funding groups. Attends planning meetings and is an active participant in attending Eden Foundation events. Regional Collaboration and Leadership Participates in Southern Health-Santé Sud Regional committees (such as; Ethics and Spiritual Health Care, etc.). Professional Responsibility Functions according to CASC Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Practice.
