We pride ourselves in being leaders in precast concrete innovation, building more energy‑efficient, sustainable, and safe structures.Job SummaryThe materials engineer will create, optimise and monitor concrete mix designs for a variety of structural and architectural precast concrete products. This position is responsible for working collaboratively to guide and support quality control, engineering, production and field operations. The role requires a detail‑oriented focus on accuracy and continuous improvement, strong problem‑solving skills, and hands‑on leadership in a fast‑paced, multi‑project environment. Initial training will focus on precast concrete, and the engineer will subsequently support our Ontario Ready‑Mix company as a mix‑design subject‑matter expert.ResponsibilitiesDesign, monitor, troubleshoot and optimise high‑performance concrete mixes for all precast plants, including specialty mixes for structural and architectural precast concrete wall panelsSupport mix design and troubleshooting for ready‑mix productsPre‑bid review of project specificationsPlan and coordinate field/plant and laboratory testing of construction materialsOversee all aspects of concrete production and ensure compliance with relevant standardsProvide technical understanding of deterioration mechanisms of concrete and methods to mitigate or rehabilitate affected structuresDevelop repair procedures for defective products that permanently restore appearance, durability and structural capacityModify or implement procedures that maintain high product qualityPerform other duties as assignedTechnical RequirementsMinimum of five years of practical engineering experience within a relevant field, preferably focusing on concrete mix‑designsCivil Engineering degree, preferably with a focus on concrete materials engineeringProfessional Engineering designation or Engineer in Training with P.Eng. eligibilitySupervisory experience in the concrete industry considered an assetKnowledge of CSA, ASTM and MTO standardsRelevant concrete testing certifications such as ACI FT Level 1 and ACI‑SCC considered strong assetsIn‑depth knowledge of design and control of concrete mixturesProficiency with concrete mix designs (including self‑consolidating concrete) and familiarity with admixture systems and cement interactionsBusiness RequirementsStrong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skillsExperience with time management and creating key performance indicators (KPIs)Desire to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven, and customer‑focused environmentWillingness to travel between plants and to project construction sites as requiredAbility to adapt to overtime where required to meet project/production deadlinesCultural RequirementsAbility to work productively with a unionised, hourly workforce in a plant environmentStrong communication and interpersonal skills with individuals of diverse backgrounds and disciplines, including various levels of managementA team player with the desire to work collaboratively with others to improve existing processesAs a member of the OSCO Construction Group, PreCon offers a comprehensive compensation package including health and dental coverage, life insurance, RRSP and tax‑free savings account options.
