Course Details Course number and title: SPA222H5S Intermediate Spanish II Course description: This course is designed to advance students' abilities in narrating and describing events, focusing on the past, future, and basic present subjunctive tenses. Students will engage with more complex materials from Spanish‑speaking cultures, allowing them to exchange detailed descriptions and comparisons. Through a thorough grammar review, students will deepen their understanding of Spanish structures and enhance their strategies for managing various communicative tasks in more sophisticated social situations. The course also incorporates reading authentic Spanish texts, with focused practice on expanding vocabulary and improving both oral and written expression. By the end of the course, students will have a strong command of advanced intermediate Spanish, preparing them for more complex language use and comprehension. Estimated enrolment: 35 Estimated TA support: None Class schedule: Tuesdays 5:00pm‑7:00pm and Thursdays 1:00pm‑2:00pm (see ttb.utoronto.ca) Sessional dates: January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026 Salary Sessional Lecturer I – $9,820.70 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE) Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $10,510.04 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE) Sessional Lecturer II – $10,510.04 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE) Sessional Lecturer II Long Term – $10,760.28 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE) Sessional Lecturer III – $10,760.28 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE) Sessional Lecturer III Long Term – $11,030.36 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE) These rates are subject to the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Minimum Qualifications PhD degree in Spanish Studies is required. Demonstrated knowledge in the specific area of the course is required. Demonstrated experience teaching a university‑level Spanish language course is required. (Near‑)native Spanish fluency is required. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level, is preferred. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12. Description of Duties All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university‑credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out‑of‑class interactions with students via e‑mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; order all necessary readings.
